Smelly hallway

Hi guys, not sure if this is in the right place, but I think I'll get a faster answer here than in DIY...

Anyway, I recently moved into a new flat, and nearly 2 months in, I still haven't been able to shake the smell. The corridors have that standard 'block of flats' smell from the cleaning stuff in the corridors or something, but it pervades my flat all the time. I've tried diffusers, incense, scented candles, nothing works. I don't want to be spraying stuff in my house. Is there a draft excluder or something I can attach to the door and it still opens? I need the smell not to be able to get in from the hallway...

    Thanks for any suggestions.

half an onion is supposed to absorb smells; ditto small bowl of bicarb of soda...not sure if these work- just heard of them
