    Hi all,

I am just wondering if anyone on here has, or knows of anyone that has gotten the BSc. in Materials Science from the (University of Limerick) assessed by the Teaching Council in order to then apply to do the Postgraduate Diploma in Education?

    Thanks.

I notice it's not on the list of approved courses. I also notice that it's not on the list of degrees offered in UL. Have they stopped offering this degree.

I also seem to remember from my time there that they did a woeful amount of chemistry in first/second year. :) Is it anyway similar to the Industrial Chemistry degree. That one is on the list as recognised for teaching Chemistry.

/off topic, I also notice that the TC website has had a revamp recently. So that's where my €90 went this year.

Cheers, ya, I am aware that it's not automatically approved.
I wrote to the TC stating that the chemistry and physics portion of the degree was shared with the Industrial Chem and Applied Physics classes and that they were approved.#I did my degree in the late '90s and yes it has changed since and parts of the course has merged into other courses as demand for Materials Science in Ireland is low (though it is very high in USA and UK).

It costs a small fortune to get it all checked out by the TC, so my query is whether anyone has done this before for the BSc. in Materials Science, or if anyone knows anyone that has done is as I wouldn't be surprised if I would be charged for getting done that was done previously, if you know what I mean!

    Hey,
The Biological and Advanced Materials course previously Materials Science BSC is no longer run by University of Limerick...it was always a small sized course and with downturn in Manufacturing,it dissappered.
From my on-off time in U.L.trying to study the Materials Sciene course, i never remember any talk about the course being approved by TC or anybody wanting to teach...Usually graduates from this course do a Post Grad, work for Manufacturing companies or do something else.!

    Hi Dunjuan
    Thanks for your reply.

Yes the course has moved into other courses however Materials Science is very much alive (see MSSI at UL).
I graduated from the course over 10 years ago and have a postgraduate degree also.

However, after spending 10 plus years in research, primarily in Nanotechnology, I'm thinking of a career teaching Physics and Chemistry.....
