New exhaust noisy again.

    Hi

I got a new exhaust fitted (backbox) 6 weeks ago. It was fine at first but gradually it's been getting very noisy again over the last few weeks. Now it's really bad, in fact I think it's worse than before.

Can anyone please shed any light on what the problem might be? Surely a new exhaust would last longer than 6 weeks?

    Thanks for reading.

Did a mechanic fit it? Could be a bad fitting. Are you sure you don't have a bad blow in the pipe elsewhere that has developed in the last 6 weeks:). The only other thing i'm thinking is that maybe it's hitting off the underside of the car depending on where it is. Again this is down to the fitting of the new box. Hope this helps.:D

Start her up and get someone to hold a rag against the exhaust tip and then have a look underneath. You should see it blown off somewhere.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yeah had it fitted by a mechanic. Was just driving it today when the middle section of the exhust snapped in half! So back to the garage for another repair.

Just wondering if it was anything to do with having the back bit replaced? Could it have caused the middle section to snap?

It could be just due to metal fatiuge due to age. I was going to say that maybe a gasket wasn't fitted to the exhaust, causing it to vibrate more than usual, leading to premature wear. If it was already rusted then this would most likely be the reason for it to snap off.

the middle section was obviously rotten and was finished off by the movement involved in fitting the back box so replace that and give a good look at front section if there is one then you should have an exaust that would last for years

Make sure that all of the Exhaust hangers are actually on the car. missing hangers will cause fatigue in the piping and eventually it will drop and crack as in this case.

Thanks again for all the replies.

I brought it back to the garage and they said the middle section was actually in good condition so they welded it back together were it had snapped. Hopefully that'll be the end of my troubles with the exhaust!

Thanks again everyone for the replies.
