Hi,sorry if this has been done before but here goes.I've recently decided to get a veneer on one on my front lower teeth. The gumline has receded quite a bit but the thing I'm worried about is a friend of mine got his 2 front teeth veneered(is that even the word:rolleyes:) about a year ago and I just noticed that up by his gumline has become really discoloured-kind of grey/black looking,it's horrible to be honest.
So my question...is it normal for the base of the veneer where the tooth meets the gumline to become so discoloured,if so-would I be better off with a false tooth instead:eek:.I'm really concious of that particular tooth as it is but the thoughts of even worse discolouration will be enough to make me yank it out altogether.

A good veneer will not discolor around the margins. Sometimes if the tooth is dead the root discolors the gum. Sometimes also cheapo, poorly made and fitted crowns and veneers leak and discolor giving that black at the edge look that is terrible. Some old fashioned metal based crowns also have black margins.

A good dentist will be able to avoid this problem.

Until you see a dentist (or,if you're after the absolute best,a prosthodontist), you have no way of knowing if you're even a suitable candidate for veneers- not everyone is.
