Context would help. Are you worried because you think you might not like the course, because you think it's a bad subject combination, because you don't think you're up to the demands of the course, or because you're not sure if you want to go to Trinity at all? Or all of the above? :)

I have heard horror storys about how elitist it can be. And im not exactly posh.

Ugh, read all of the other threads in the forum on this topic. Trinity has thousands of people and they're all from different backgrounds and are all different. Not the "biggest mistake" by any means :)

Oh don't worry about it, I'm not posh either. I mean just the other day I bought my caviar from Marks & Spencers!

Don't worry about it. I'm from a working class background in Ballyfermot, and I still have the accent. The only aspect of my roots I don't have any more is the predilection for stabbing. We were really poor, even during the *gasp* CELTIC TIGER!!!

My friends in college come from all kinds of backgrounds. Sure, there's elitism in Trinity, but it's very seldom you come across it. The elitist prícks usually stick together - everyone finds a group they can fit in with. They're easily avoidable.

    Plebeian underwood...

OP, it's just a college and it's made up of all sorts. Just sit back, wait for August and relax in the meantime.

El Siglo is right, any elitism you see on here is mostly people taking the piss out of Trinity being really old and having some posh traditions like the latin at the graduation ceremonies and the fact that we have a "provost" not a president of the college. Part of being a Trinity student is mocking the Trinity tradition and all are welcome. Look at the Trinity Access Programme, it takes students from some of the most disadvantaged schools in Dublin and those students are welcomed into the college community just as much as your average school leaver. Anyone who is deliberately elitist is a prick and you'll find them in every college, plus as has been pointed out, they're easy to avoid!

I'm constantly messing with my UCD mates about this, I call them scum, they call me posh, but both parties realise this is complete bull(though one lad really gets his back up sometimes:p ). In fact, in a way UCD is way more elitist with the "daddy bought me my new golf" crowd.

In my course I've been called posh, and I assure you, I'm not. You'll be fine.

Trinity's poshos are often of the old-money, landed types which you don't get much in UCD. They're a small and not often encountered minority (at least for me), but my are they a curious bunch.

You should see some of my friends in TCD, culchie doesn't even come close to these lads :D They love it there

I have more friends in UCD than TCD but I prefer my mates in TCD more because their friends are less judgmental. You mention a desire to go to TCD to a group of UCD students and you immediately get an awkward silence in my experience.

Plus money can't buy you brains, a lot of TCD students are normal people who worked hard for their results.

And the bonus of TCD is having Dublin at the doorstep, you're not stuck on campus all day and you have the option of the Luas/DART/train

There are millions of threads on this forum that might reassure you, have a look! :)

The "elitist, posh" thing comes from years ago. With the CAO & "free" fees, there's no way the college could be elitist! And just to dispel the rich kid rumours, TCD is actually cheaper than UCD cause the student services fee is less!

Oh and just so you know, I don't know any TCD students who call it "Trinners".:P
