m50 toll - yes, another Q

Need to collect hubby from airport this evening, and for various reasons I need to take his work vehicle. (I am insured on it and have the relevant permissions to use it).

It already has an e-flow tag, registered to the company....but as this is a personal journey we'd rather pay this toll ourselves.

I can remove tag easily from windscreen...but if I try to pre-pay at my local garage before I leave this evening will it cause confusion, as the reg. number is associated with an e-flow tag/business account?

Free trip on the M50, let the company pay ;)

You can't pay before the trip.

Take the tag down and put it in the glovebox to make sure it doesn't read it anyhow.

Pay in local shop before 8pm tomorrow.;)

The reg is registered so dont matter if you pay first or take the tag off.. It will still come out of the work account..

Well, no...I'm sure we'll have to pay, as the company will know that a trip over the M50 at midnight is hardly a work trip...so to save the hassle of sorting it out with the accounts dept further down the line I'd rather see if there's a simpler way for me to pay up front.

Why not let the company foot the whopper bill of €4

Erm....Yes you can....have always pre-paid the M50 journeys with no hassles, in our own vehicles.

Can you not just pay it on to the account anyway?

Interesting...and worth a try I suppose....at least, if the payment will process on the machine at the local garage, we can then show the accounts dept that we did pay, and presumably the amount would be deducted off their monthly bill?

    +1

Just say "I went through the toll bridge on my personal time, here's €4"

I'd nearly guarantee they'll shrug it off, it's a pittance and normally company vehicles provided for private use are somewhat of a perk and things like personal tolls are covered (as long as the goodwill isn't abused).
The parallel concern would be fuel usage - are you going to try and compensate the company for the couple of Euro of fuel you're going to use on this journey?

Er no....because I topped off the tank before I left, and topped the tank again this morning....so if anything, the company have gained fuel :D

We always put our own fuel in for personal journeys.

I think you need a quick chat with the employer to see what's acceptable usage - I think you're being way too honest/diligent.

Eeeerrrrr.....you, my friend, are a rarity and God Bless you for it. I had thought such people were with the dinosaurs. Any chance we could install you as the Chief Finance Officer in Dail Eireann ? We could give you a SWAT team to hunt down defaulters.:D

    Hi Dollydishmop,

We just wanted to confirm that removing the tag will not prevent the trip going onto the account.

Our advise is to talk to the person who administrates the account in the company and arrange payment, from the account holders point of view it will be the least confusing solution.

    Hope this helps

And what would be wrong with putting the toll charges strictly on the TAG and forgetting about the Reg Number.?
That way the Tag could be used within a pool of cars.
Why tie it to the Car Reg ? If the Tag clicks regardless then the payment is made, what's wrong with that approach ?
The camera could still show the vehicle being used for checking purposes.

    Hi Abraham,

A tag is assigned to a specific vehicle as it is a security risk for a tag to be usable on any vehicle – particularly when there is a payment method set up on the tag account, so it is designed to protect the account-holder from "unauthorised" use of their tag. Also, different types of vehicles have different toll rates - for example, a tag for a car won't work for a lorry.

If a customer wishes to change their tag to a different vehicle, please call and we would be happy to reassign the tag to the new licence plate.

    1890 50 10 50 between 7am and 11pm seven days a week.

    Regards... :)
