Video editing question

Recently I've been toying around with iMovie, and I'm really enjoying using it. I want to make a few fanmade videos, just for fun, but I don't know of an easy and cost efficient way to get my dvds onto my hard drive. Is there anyway of doing it in iMovie, or anything similar? Thanks!
