Is there a limit or restriction to the type of land that can be planted? I have about 150acs of mountain type grazing, it qualified for the reps and was being farmed so could it be planted?

whole load of factors kick in-county council i.e. planning permission, water acidity tests, forest service more likely to refuse mountain land, lower premium rates for this sort of land, personal agenda of the Forest Service inspector(yep!), possible requirement for EIA due to size...just some of the obstacles you will have to overcome.
For some obscure reason, there now seems to be an attempt, some would say unintended, to halt the afforestation programme in Ireland. Check out Donal Magner's piece in the Farmer's Journal June 25th last

Hi Grecco... im assuming from your description of the land it is heathland, ie growing heather and mountain grass rather than meadow grass and rush? if that is the case, the current rule with Forest Service is that heathland or what they call 'unenclosed and unimproved' land cannot make up more than 20% of any application for an afforestation grant.
Other issues like acid sensitive areas, NHA's, SPA's and SAC's also come into it. Also the premium for planting this type of land is quite low and the productivity isnt the greatest and it may be worth your while to improve it (if you can) before you would plant it. As previous person noted... ring some of your local forestry company reps and they will call out to you free of charge and advise you of various options....
