Problem with Microsoft Works

I received an email for a job application with two files attached. One is small (75kb) and the second is big (1.6mb). The smaller file is the actual job application and the second is a company brochure.

I first tried opening the small one and it wouldn't work. A message came up saying "There is not enough memory to open file... Close your document, close other programs, and then try again." I did this and the same message popped up.

So I tried the second, much bigger, file and it opened with no problem whatsoever. I then went back to the first and it still wouldn't open, the same "not enough memory" message came up.

I can't think of any other useful info.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? It clearly isn't what the message is saying the problem is.

What are the file extensions? Have you tried changing them to say .txt and opening the file with notepad?

Do you need to open the smaller file, or would a PDF version do? - you could try uploading the file to a PDF converter site to get a readable version

    Both are .doc files.

I need to be able to type in answers on the first file. I know this because I was able to read the file when I was at work this morning. Now, I'm at home and I can't access the first file.

In that case it just sounds corrupted - one last option would be to dowload openoffice and try opening it with that, otherwise contact the sender and say you are having problems with the file..
