Hoping to get to Thailand in Oct.

    Flying probably Dublin - Bangkok.

I'm just wondering who it's best to book with? Best for prices etc?

    Thanks

    Thanks.

I'm looking for return flights. Sorry should have stated that.

Best price seems to be around the €680 mark.

Is this as good as I'm likely to get.

thats a great price, you might get 630 but definitely not cheaper than that.
I would try a few sites if 680 is the lowest take it fast as October is approaching the high season and the flights rocket fast.

Op thats a good price. If you can go etihad, I think they are the best, followed by qatar...the only one I would avoid is china airlines!

For what reasons would you avoid China Airlines because of? I'm looking at flights at the moment and Aer Lingus with C.A. are coming in the cheapest by nearly €300 so I'm interested to hear.

Their safety record is not good, also my bro in law travelled with them to Thailand..said the plain was ancient..still has ashtrays on it ..their last big accident was found to be caused by "metal fatigue"..the plane tore apart during flight.

They do seem to be improving though ..still not enough to convince me though.

    Edit: see stats here: http://www.airdisaster.com/statistics/

Totally agree Eva Air would be a better choice, I believe Air China's planes are sold old they still use the projector screen also!

Is there no beginning to your knowledge of travel? Another inaccurate comment about an airline on which you've never flown. Just for your information - Air China and China Airlines are different carriers.

I made a Freudian slip on the name, I was referring to the Taiwanese based China Airlines and not the PRC based Air China. However my information about China Airlines is not inaccurate and is common knowledge amongst aviation enthusiasts.

There is a thread on the aviation forum here and as you will see I am not alone in my views of China Airlines. They have a bad safety record and offer pretty bad service, I know a few people who flew them, its all up to the individual who they fly with really.

If it all possible get Etihad. Weird as it sounds I actually didn't want to get off the flight it was that good. Try and avoid Air Asia as well. Apparently there's barely any leg room, the food isn't great and most importantly a poor selection of films.

The thread you quote includes only 2 people who have actually flown with China Airlines. Both of them say they would fly with them again! As would I.

OP. What about flying with Oman Air from London. If you got a cheap flight to London from Dublin you can get a return flight Lon-BKK with Oman Air for €499.

I have never flown with them but I have been reading reviews (as I plan to use them in Sept) and they seem like a good airline. They have a 34 degree seat pitch as well on their planes, compared to the usual 32 on most economy flights (unless you can get on the upper deck of Eva Air where I think it is 36)

I have flown with China Airlines 4 times and have no complaints about them whatsoever. I think you should just go with whoever is cheapest, the flights arent too long only about ten hours and are timed so you sleep most the way.

+1 on going with Etihad. really enjoyable, relaxed flight. Great service. I flew Dub-Bkk with them and I 100% recommend them. My mates flew Turkish Air and China Air and they both said it was horrible. My mate who flew China said it was like being on a 13 hour Ryanair flight!

Problem with flying any of the middle eastern carriers is the stopover 6.5 hours into your journey...

The flights are broken into 2 x 6.5 hour legs (instead of a 2 hour and 11 hour leg when flying via Europe). They also require a plane change in the stop over city so you must disemback

If you intend to sleep on the flights this is far from ideal.

Also some of the Middle Eastern Airports (e.g. Qatar) are pretty prehistoric in terms of facilities and require bus transfers to and from the terminal...

China all the way for me if it came to a deciasion between them and Etihad/Qatar....

Intersting perspective. I rarely sleep on long haul flights so I don't mind the half and half idea. Psychologically anything over 10 hours gets on my nerves!

I like flying with Turkish as a preference. You can often include a night or two in Istanbul for little or no extra cost. Great city. Istanbul as an airport has improved no end in the last few years and Turkish are great to fly with.

I only had a 1.5 hour stop over in Abu Dhabi when I flew with Etihad and the time flew! I wouldn't fly with anyone else after flying with them.
