    Hi all.

I have been offered (and accepted) a place in this course, starting September. Anyone else know if they secured a place? I found out early as I'm a mature student. I use the term, mature, loosely as I am in fact only 25.
Looking forward to hearing from my future class mates

The Royal County - Co. Meath. No better County in the Country! Whaaaaa :)
Where is your gf (*insert name here) traveling from? Is she going to commute or live down there? I'm going with the latter.

Personally I'd like to do more work with the Elderly who need care and also the Intellectual Disability sector interests me. Who knows I also like the idea of doing work with the Homeless too...how about you? What area would you like to go into?

I would hope to work in the residental sector. Would like to go on and do the MA in Social Work hopefully, see how I go first!

I'm also a mature 25 year old student (hehehe) applying for the course in Wicklow though and its the BA in Social and Community Studies. Although I'm not working at the moment so the lady at reception said I needed to find a place to take me on to do work experience (which I'm so excited about), I've emailed loads of places, does anyone have any advice on how to find places that will take me on?

    Thanks :)

Hi TanD...my advice would be try get experience anywhere, even if its voluntary work. Like you could volunteer working with the homeless or check out your local Nursing Home??? Best of luck

Has anyone done this course part-time and then went on to do Masters in Social Work or does it have to be full time?

MSW's in Ireland require that you have a minimum of a Level 8 degree:
I took this from the UCC MSW page:
My degree is not a level 8 degree - can I apply?
If you have a Bachelor of Applied Social Studies (Social Care) ordinary level degree from an Institute of Technology (level 7), before the degrees were upgraded to level 8 degrees you will need to do some work to upgrade your degree to a level 8 degree. Please contact your college to discuss your options, for example, to complete an add on year for an Honours BA degree (level 8). Alternatively, you could complete a Higher Diploma in Social Policy that would also give you the honours year and the required level 8 qualification in Social Science.

this is probably really late but be sure someone might benefit
    • applied social studies share and lalor
    • a good psychology book (Santrock is what i like)
    • and a sociology book
these are the most important and you should get most of your information out of these
alibris is an excellent site that sells second hand book, you woud never think they were second hand there actually perfect books and you get them for less than half the price
