    Hey guys
    The title says it all.
I'm looking to open a cafe and require a business grant to support the start up of the business.
I have applied but have been advised "The sector of your intended business does not qualify for direct grant aid (manufacturing and export only)"
Anyone that has experience with this I would be grateful for some input as I don't want to fully depend on a bank loan.
    Regards
    RA

I'm afraid you couldn't have picked a better username in relation to what you are now in for, seeking seed/start-up capital for a new business in this country. Read some of my previous posts on here and in the Irish Economy forum, where I posted a few, very detailed posts about the rings I had run around me by the politically appointed STOOGIES in the County Enterprise Boards, the Dept of Enterprise, Trade & Employment (or whatever it is called now), no matter what agency I went to, it was the same bullsh*t and waffling.

Well the most valuable resource when you are starting up business is your drive and more importantly, your confidence.

Dealing with stoogie public sector workers, who have no intention of backing you, who will lie to you and mislead you at every stage, will drain you of these hugely valuable personal resources that you have, that take ages to build back up again, once they have been critically undermined by people who couldn't give a sh*t about you, your coffee shop or indeed anything other than what lands in their bank account at the end of every month.

Read some of my previous posts on this subject I think to get a very personal recollection of my experiences with these people.
