have just come out of nct after having the car pass the test however as i was leaving the chap said your car wont start we had to push it out and then walked off. Surely enough the car wont start now. Just find the whole nct thing 1 dodgy racket

Unlikely to be anything they did really.

Short of stealing your battery/fuel I cannot imagine they did anything 'dodgy'

The NCT in general is a filthy money making scam, but not dodgy.

    So In Ireland,

You can pass the NCT if your car doesnt start.

You can fail your driving test and drive home.

    Joke.

You may find that the only dodgy thing here is your battery :p

Did it ever have problems startign before this? What is is doing when it's failing to start? as in turning over or not, sound or no sound when turning the key etc. dashboard lights coming on? lights working?

the lights are coming on radio and windows work fine. when you turn the key fully it just clicks but doesnt turn over

Just guessing, docu was probably done when they went back to start the car. I suppose it's a bit of goodwill / lenience or maybe just a loophole that they didn't revoke the cert.

What do other countries that you don't consider a joke do regarding driving test failure?

Starter probably sticking. Do the lights dim quickly when turned on?
Does starter make a lot of clicks or just one?

Sounds like the battery doesnt have enough power to start the car. Maybe your battery was borderline and perhaps light were left on or something while nct guy completed his ramp section of the test. If your battery was poor, a very short period of even parking lights left on would kill it.

Prob not enough juice in the battery to actually start the car, just enough for the radio etc.
Jump start it and/or get a new battery if the old one is more than 3 years old.

that poster is looking for an example of a country in which you think they use a better proceedure for driver testing in relation to having failed your test

Does every country let you drive home alone after failing? Id give Finland as an example where they employ a better procedure.

Can somebody give me a country that will Issue a equivelant NCT cert to a car that doesnt start?

Personally i don't really care so you don't have to explain to me, i was just trying to clarify what that other person meant, bu i did get what you were saying anyway.

Finland has a great little part to it's driver training, you have to be able to control your car on a very slippy surface, they ALL have to be able to slide a car in a controlled way. Now a combination of that, the fact that scandinavians are still mad vikings at heart and load of gravel roads and snow and ice is why there are so many finnish rally drivers at the top of their game

I raise you with Germany. There you can only drive with an official licened driving instructor when you haven't passed your test yet.

But isn't the car as it safest, when you can't start it? You can only have an accident when you drive it :D

Precisely, just because it wont start doesnt make it unroadworthy, the whole idea behind the nct is for "cleaner safer motoring"

There's nothing 'unsafe' about a car that has a flat battery/funked starter..

Sure isnt that what parkin' on a hill was invented for :pac:

Yet they will fail you if your indicators dont flash quick enough :o
