Smackdown 22nd July *Spoilers*

    - Thanks to reader Zelda Root for the following WWE SmackDown! tapings from tonight’s show in Minneapolis, Minnesota. These will air this Friday, July 22nd on SyFy:

    Dark Match:

    * Michael McGillicutty beat Trent Baretta

    SmackDown, Airing Friday:

    * SmackDown opens with Randy Orton sitting on a chair in the ring with the mic. He talks about the current state of the WWE. He calls out Christian and here comes the World Heavyweight Champion. Christian says Randy needs to work on his anger problem. They go back and forth for a bit, until Orton gets pissed and heads up the ramp only to be stopped by Teddy Long. Long says Randy will get a rematch but not tonight as he’s already agreed to face Kane in a street fight. He asks Orton to be the bigger man and walk away but Orton goes for Christian. The officials restrain him and Long informs Christian he’ll be facing Ezekiel Jackson after the break.

    * World Champion Christian beat Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson with the Killswitch after a back and forth match with mixed crowd reaction for Christian. Anyone remember when these two faced off for who would be remembered as the last ever ECW Champion? Me neither.

    * Michael Cole is in the ring and invites SmackDown’s Mr. Money in the Bank, Daniel Bryan out. He comes out and Cole rips him for a while. Bryan says he doesn’t care what Cole thinks. Bryan talks about the physical sacrifices he’s made to get to the WWE. Bryan says he’s going to the first champion to announce when he’s going to cash in ahead of time because apparently he’s never heard of Rob Van Dam. He announces he’s cashing in April 1st in Miami at WrestleMania and fulfill his lifetime dream. Out comes Heath Slater for some unfathomable reason. He gives a heel promo and they start a match. I’m guessing there will be commercials during this match.

    * Daniel Bryan beat Heath Slater with some submission move I didn’t recognize (not the LaBelle Lock). This was a pretty decent match considering Heath Slater was involved. The crowd liked Bryan but Heath’s involvement minimized crowd reaction somewhat.

    * Matt Striker interviews Mark Henry backstage. Mark Henry says he has no regrets and everyone should fear him.

    * Wade Barrett and Sheamus went to a double count out. They continued brawling after the match and eventually ended up back in the ring where Barrett ate a Brogue Kick. Seemed like Sheamus may be in the midst of a slow face turn.

    * Kane gives a backstage promo saying he’ll use Randy Orton to kill his humanity and be a monster again.

    * Randy Orton beat Kane in a street fight after an RKO onto a chair. Match saw Kane kick out of an RKO and Randy kick out of a chokeslam. Crowd was much more into this match than anything preceding it. Afterward Kane offered his hand and Randy shook it. Kane looked devastated by the loss.

Mark Henry came out and attacked Kane, doing the splash onto the chair around the ankle that he did to Big Show at MITB. Refs came to check on Kane and I assume this was the end of the TV taping

So Bryan is going to wait until WM to cash in, interesting. Could Rock -v- Cena be supplemented by Bryan -v- Punk? That's the only scenario that interests me really, I've no desire to see Bryan work with Christian or Orton, but maybe that's just because of the mind numbing storyline both are involved in right now.

(I'm presuming since there is a spoiler warning in the topic title, we don't need to black everything out. Never have before )

I'd be amazed if Bryan manages to get to Mania to be honest, but its the perfect move for his character. I can't imagine he'll face Punk since I'd imagine if Punk has resigned, he'll have gotten his wish of Punk vs Stone Cold. I'd say its more likely we'll get Bryan vs Orton vs Sheamus or something.

I say a triple threat cause if Punk or Cena has the title, the Royal Rumble winner won't go into their matches. So presumably it's going to be Smackdown Champ vs Royal Rumble Winner vs Bryan (if he's still holding the MITB).

Yep if u write spoilers in the thread there's no need to include spoilers in the post - but good man for being extra careful :)

Just made the title a bit more informative.

I thought Rhodes was getting an IC title match this week  and no USOs again :(

For some reason I've feel someone will challenge Bryan for his briefcase and he might lose

Sounds like an excellent episode, can't wait to see it. I love the sound of Barrett/Sheamus

A slow Sheamus face turn could be interesting, I'd say he could pull it off.

Sheamus could easily pull off the face turn. He's one of the very few heels who gets any kind of reaction at all.

Pity that Barrett isn't over in the slightest. Although I always found that Sheamus could make a good face & he just stays improving. I'd be willing to bet he's in Bookers Fave 5 by now too!

Sounds good, would love if they slowly built Danielson up between now and Mania, could really be something special.

Realistically, knowing WWE,I can't see that happenning,he'll probably wind up losing the case to Mark Henry or Michael Cole or something shít like that!

Sounds like a good episode. They're slowly, very slowly, widening the PG boundaries which is a good thing.

    Sheamus heel turn :D

Sheamus face turn FTW. He will probably be WHC by october. This orton/christian thing will have to end soon.

Didnt kennedy announce that he was going to use his MITB match at mania?

Yeah he did announce it but lost it to Edge when he got injured. He would of beaten Taker for the title on Smackdown a few days later had he not got injured

Ha, I remember that. He announced he was waiting till Mania and then was told he would be out for months. Then Taker gets injured so they give the MITB to Edge cause they needed a new champ. Then, two days later, Kennedy gets news his injury isn't as bad as first thought and he'd be fine within three weeks. I XD'd hard cause Kennedy could have won the title and they could have just protected him for a few weeks...

No, Kane ;_; Wonder will they do a Kane/Big Show take out Mark Henry angle when they come back. It's not like it'll be the first time they've tagged together to destroy stuff :pac:

Pretty much every MITB winner teases waiting until Mania so I wouldn't read too much into it.

Seems like we could be getting a Sheamus face turn if the fans get on board with it.

If they follow through with Bryan it gives them a nice set time period to build him up as a legit contender. If they actually take the ball and run with this storyline it'll be the best WWE year in God knows how long.

Punk/Bryan for the World Title at Mania and I'd
drown in an ocean of my own semen
. They never had a major feud or match in ROH AFAIK, though I recall a very good effort in FIP where they apparently called the whole thing on the fly, old-style.

For the first time since he moved to Smackdown I am enjoying watching face Orton. He was always doing well in the ring but he is starting to look like he is enjoying his face run for the first time.

I like Bryans new Submission move. Fair enough Heath isn't a big guy but its a good idea for WWE to get a move he can lock in on a bigger guy over.

I was surprised and a bit disappointed Cody wasn't on the show this week. No Uso's either.

Ya it could get really over if allowed to be. I love submission holds! Jimmy Jacobs uses it in ROH (called the "End Time").

if there was one big-time WWE wrestler I'd be less scared of in a scrap it'd be orton. A gentle tug on his shoulder and he'd drop :p

there's a few who love Kane but sure it's like that when someone denigrates a wrestler u love.

Kane is a God-awful wrestler who's been coasting for a long time. But who can blame him? He's been mis-used, his pushes stalled and buried for almost all of the 2000s.

He's been face/heel turned more than anybody too. He's clearly slowing down with age but give me Kane over the fat & worthless Henry any day of the week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Henry's another guy that's been turned a fair bit and pushed and pulled.

I dunno, I don't see anything in Henry. He's a big guy, but not that tall. He's alright on the mic but for what he costs and at his age; and with his "skill" in the ring he's be at the top of the chopping block for me.

Early in his career he might've made a fun comedy midcard act. At least Kane's got a great gimmick/entrance that he can spruce up and distract fans with :)

Mark Henry makes me want to change the channel. I've dreaded his every move since 1996!

OT...a good Smackdown. Hopefully Bryan gets a legit push. Face Sheamus is something I've wanted for a while. Sheamus and Punk have the potential to be very successful faces.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

What's the point of having Michael Cole heel out all the time? He really denigrates faces and King/Booker (lol, King Booker) aren't up to snuff to rebuttal his caustic words.

Watching MITB again I had to tune out the commentary, how many f*cking times is he going to call DB a nerd? That's all people will think when you see DB, the opposite word-association of what WWE should be going for.

Is Cole getting another wrestling angle? Because if not then WWE are doing a horrific job selling their product. He grates on their ears, and King/Booker don't make it any easier with their ignorant, cliched remarks.

    :(

That said, it's great to see DB with the briefcase, they must push him for at least a while because of it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,600 ✭✭✭✭CMpunked

I'm liking Henry these days, it's his best angle in years(granted, not hard), he goes in and just rips someone apart.
I like the strong pissed off heel character who just rips through people like a tank. Hopefully it can get over some younger talent who will 'slay the beast!

I hate Booker & Cole they spend the whole time arguing & coming out with the same tripe. D.Bryan, Fave 5,AWWW my goodness,That Tuwg Ezeekeel Jackson & thats just booker. Whereas Cole then comes out with the same mouldy rubbish about Bryan he was doing everyweek on the already forgotten Nxt. Matthews gets about 1 complete sentence a week most of the time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

lagana made a good point that Henry arrived 10 years too late in the wrestling biz; that he would've thrived as the big monster heel in the territories. I doubt he could be any worse than Bundy and he main evented WM2!

The formula for pushing henry seems very simple but wwe never really follow through on it. every time they botch his push it gets harder for fans to accept his next one.

Now that the Michael Cole angle is over, why not let Josh Matthews call SD? I think he's decent enough and will improve over time. Whatever happened to Matt Striker (before he got terrible obviously lol)

I have a feeling that is what WWE are going for. Taker used to fill the role of getting a younger guy over as a threat, is is retired now. WWE may as well have Henry take out some other wastes of space in the process of getting him over. Hopefully Khali and Mahal are next.

I don't think so. If someone says "Is it time he was sacked" but provides no reason then I am going to ask why. I'm curious as to what he did this week that was so bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

WWE are getting more popular in India; i'm be surprised if Khali and Mahal didn't get more air time. Honestly what I'd do is tape a segment with them and just air it in India; they have to change the audio to take out the massive boos :p or hell just do what they do now, keep it to just a few minutes!

When i was in India i caught RAW, they had a ticker at the bottom with texts about wrestling, most of it was love for Khali, lol.
