Motor school teaching learners to drive with fogs on!

    Howdy.

Herself is taking a couple of lessons before her test in a couple of weeks.

I happened to be there yesterday, when her instructor pulled up, dips on (fine with this) and front fogs on! I commented on it, and Herself said, "Yup, first thing the tell you to do!"

I told her to argue that they're fogs, not driving lights or DLRs, but she figures they're the instructors, she'll do as they say in their car.

Any ideas how I can correct this travesty?

Report them to the RSA for gross incompetence?

Pull out the rules of the road and show them perhaps? Definitely should not be driving with fogs on when there is no fog.
Other option would be to change instructor I guess.

I drive with my front fogs on all the time....when the driving tester checked the lights before starting off on the day of my test they were on then also...and I passed my test....

It's the rear fog lamps on when they're not needed that can be a blinder.

No no, it's the front fogs that are a blinder, especially at night. You're endangering other drivers by driving around with your front fogs on. Turn them off for the love of jeebus.

Check out page 33 of the Rules of the road so:

"You must use fog lights only in dense fog or falling snow. Turn them off in clear weather or you will risk causing glare or dazzling other drivers"

Directly quoted but I'm sure the RSA won't mind. :)

Would like to see penalty points introduced for having fog lights on when no fog & the gaurds to enforce. Only then will people understand it's not cool to blind other drivers & pay the price on their licence.
Deffo a hot topic but I am not in favor of fog lights turned on...Have you seen the size of the front fogs on those older Micra's??? Blinding....

On a plus note, some gaurds will tell you to turn them off at a checkpoint.

Just wondering whats the big deal with fog lights on when there is no fog. If i am driving towards someone usually a boy racer with his fogs on day or night they dont blind me! I notice a slight shine off the road but it doesnt make any difference to me.

Might be spotlights, less of a glare i understand.

Actually have you considered that OP?

    IBTL

Wonder how Gards will deal with the new Passat and Skoda's that have their DRL's where Fogs generally are. Can imagine that argument at the side of the road.....

Had a conversation with the old fella about them and in the 30 years driving up and down the roads of Ireland, he never found conditions bad enough to justify putting them on.

I always find dipped headlights and slow down a better option

OP, read the charter. This has been done to death. Some people have suggested contacting the school. Do that instead of a thread.

    Closed.
