    Hi all.
I took a pic last weekend backstage at a boxing show which a trainer would like to blow up and hang in his gym.
My only problem is that when converted to black and white its a little over 1,000kb in resolution. I'm thinking this will limit the size it can be blown up too.

The shot was taken at iso 1600 (on an 8megapixel 20d so thats it maxed out iso wise) f/8 and 1/60th.
in colour its around 3,000k but as he seen it in black and white im assuming thats what he wants and imo it looks better also.

So as far as i can tell noise and resolution will be limiting factors and im wondering if any of you have any suggestions or know whats the max size this can be blown up to?

    It's filesize, not resolution.

B&W Photos (obviously!) have less colour information, so need less bytes to store their information, therefore the filesize is less, even though the resolution is the same!

I was thinking (and hoping) this was to the case. Any ideas how big this can be blown up?people will be as close as 1-2 ft away from it when its up.

It will go to whatever size you want it to, give Steve a shout at http://www.360-dpi.com/

Cheers. The guy is from Dublin but now based in uk so thats probably a no go.

Basically... If the guy went to get this printed tommorrow bringing only the original file as it is how big could it be printed and still look good.
Normally my shots are to be A4 max so i've never looked into it.
The shot means a lot to him so i dont want him splashing out big bucks on a print for it to look horrible. All advice and tips appreciated :)

You could go to an 18x12 inch print easily, larger up to A1 or A2. Its all relative in printing, something A1 wont be viewed from 1-2 foot away. I have printed a 4mp file at 18x12 and looked great

According to the enlargement calculator on my phone the min ppi for a 50cm viewing distance is 175ppi, which gives you 20 inches on the longest side

    (3504/175) = ~20

Cheers for the input guys, So from what I gather up to 16x20 is cool and if you were to go past that then it may look pixelly (for want of a better word)

Viewing distance it probably the most important factor here so you should make your final decisions based on that.

Will 16x20 work? 16x24 would be the right aspect ratio.. 16x20 will crop the same as an 8x10... and the image looks edge-to-edge unless you want to chop someone out.
