Hi Guys, myself and my better half are busy looking for a location to have our wedding around september/october next yr, our problem is that we cant pick a destination, we are looking for somewhere easily got to from shannon and cork preferably in a sunny coastal area !! possibly spain or portugal. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Well I'm living in Spain and just got engaged so most likely having wedding out here about that time too. Can't give you much advice as just starting to look into it, but a good thing is that there a loads of flights to Malaga so people can come for as long or as little as they like and there are many beautiful spots not overriden by tourists. It's not just costa del sol. We'll probably start have ours in Casares, where we live, but a lot to think about and a lot of places to visit!

Hi there congrats on deciding to get married.I got married on the costa del sol 2 months ago and cant reccommend it highly enough. As the other poster above said malaga has flights daily from cork and shannon most of the year especially the summer months so your guests can come for a few days if need be.
Depends on what type of venue your looking for will decide where youll have your wedding.

Hmm, maby not for October, but from May to September: Poland is a good place for destination weding.
The country offers plenty of beautiful places. Habitants - true hospitality. And moreover - prices of wedding are much cheaper than anywhere in Europe ;)

    Hi Flinny,

I got married in Spain a few weeks ago, couldn't recommend it highly enough. We based ourselves in Nerja, lovely town about 40 minute drive from Malaga airport (you can fly from both Cork and Shannon, in the summer at least) but the actual venue was in Motril, further down the coast. It was a great decision to go abroad and I'd advise anyone thinking about it to go for it.

Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.

Another vote for Nerja in Spain.... Malaga is very handy for flights which makes it all a lot easier on guests.

Have a look at www.celebrationsinspain.com for venues all along the costa del sol.

Thankyou for all the relpies, i am happy to say that we have decided to go for Nerja due to the easy access from shannon and cork via malaga.
We fly out later this month to meet a wedding planner, can anyone offer any advice on locations or do's and don'ts in Nerja ?

    Hi Jack,
Yes we met with our wedding planner a few wks ago, Sonya Casey and i have to say i was very impressed with her she put any worries we had to rest, her husband Matt even showed us all the potential venues and gave invaluable advice on transportation. I would definatly recommend employing a wedding planner and from my research Sonya is the best there is. We have just booked the Balcon De Europe as our venue, as the venue is superb. If you would like to know anymore info please feel free to private mail me.
    Regards Mark

Just back last sunday from a wedding in Cyprus and it was fabulous in every sense. The weather in october is superb, the scenery likewise, look it up before you decide on anywhere. My wedding trip was based in Ayia Napa, stayed in a penthouse apt in Nissi 3 complex, everything was mesmerising and wonderful value.

    Hi and congratulations!

There are lots of foreign destinations that would be fab. BUT.. if you are planning on lots of guests, I think you should consider how they might afford going abroad for a wedding.

Times are very tough here right now (but maybe your circle is ok and that's great), so a lot of people might not be able to afford a three or four day trip for your wedding, along with hotels, outfits, presents, spending money etc.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but just think about what your guests have to pay in a deep recession.

Best of luck to you both!
