Hi, does anyone know what the closing times for a bar in a golf club with members drinking in it? Do they have to observe regular pub opening hours or have they exemptions? Also, what are the Garda powers with inspecting the premises? Any links would be helpful. Thanks

There are differing treatments for clubs and club licenses. Generally members are signed in and alcohol is not sold to members of the public so to say. The reality may be somewhat different but that's the general gist of it.

I think they have to observe the same hours as pubs but it's a bit more difficult for the Gardai to raid them because I think an Inspector has to be involved.

In the case of golf clubs down the country that's effectively diplomatic immunity because either the Inspector or Supt. and more often both of them would tend to be members!

They were originally regulated by the Registration of Clubs Act 1904, they don't actually have pub licences but I'm sure the restrictions on hours have been affected by amending liquor licensing legislation passed since 1922.
