As shown above, for sale is my Dad's Giant Defy 4 racing bike, 2011 model, compact crankset. The bike is only about 3 weeks old and is for sale because of a good deal on an upgrade to a Defy 2.

    IMAG0059.jpg

The bike is practically as good as new.
    Full specification: http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/defy.4.compact/7842/45449/

    RRP approx: €675
    Asking price: €550

Size is M/L, which is 56cm I believe.

    Based in South Tipperary.

Remove your number from the ad.

What size is it? Has he a receipt for it, since its 2 weeks old.

Sorry, didn't realise numbers weren't allowed.

    Added size info, it's a 56cm.
No receipt as far as I know, but you can tell from looking at it to be honest.

Numbers are not allowed because you would be lining yourself up as target for all sorts of cranks (it's not a good idea to publicise your private phone numbers on the internet), and more importantly for this forum you must keep all discussions and negotiations in-thread

I would suggest you make sure you read the forum rules before posting in any forum on boards

I doubt too many will be keen if you dont have a receipt for the bike you bought 3 weeks ago.
Why not trade it in to get the deal which you mentioned in the initial post?

No disrespect but I have seen 2 year old bikes which are maintained very well which could pass for new, but they aren't ;)

Good luck with the sale, I dont mean to be picking holes in your ad.

    No receipt...

Was it purchased under the cycle to work scheme?

I have read the forum rules perfectly, thanks. There is not one mention of "no phone numbers" in the cycling advert rules, and because it was you that wrote them, I'd suggest adding that rule to the list. I am not new to the internet, and in fact I probably know a lot more about it than most people here. I know loads of people who advertise regularly on DoneDeal and they don't ever receive crank calls. Email addresses are a different ball game. I said I was sorry for posting the number. Every forum operates differently and I am on many forums let me tell you. I haven't been here for long, I read the cycling advert rules and followed them, so again, sorry for doing something I didn't know I couldn't do.

No problem, thanks for the comments. We don't have a receipt because the local bike shop isn't too "keen" on receipts if you know what I mean - he doesn't give anyone a receipt. I can go and ask him for one, but I mightn't get to the right value.

The deal my Dad got was off a nephew of his who was selling a 2010 Defy 2 for just above the price of the Defy 4 new, so my Dad, after feeling the weight of the 2 over the 4, decided to go for it and is now stuck with the Defy 4. It was out on about 4 cycles as far as I can remember.

I understand where you're coming from so thanks for the comments.

    Nope, it was not.

    That's because it's a site-wide "rule"

But particularly in this case, as you must keep all discussions in-thread, there is absolutely no point in providing a number

Any more questions on moderation/rules - please take it to PM

    Thanks

    Nope, it was not.

He shouldn't see a massive difference in weight tbh, only maybe 1lbs to 2lbs at max.
They have carbon forks, which funnily the 2009 Defy 4 had, so that might add a little.
Different chainset I think on the Defy 2.

Unless he is getting a great deal for the extra euros ( I see a difference of 400 euro on CycleSuperstore) and unless he intends to get into the cycling I would keep the Defy 4 and keep the extra 100's in your pocket.

There is actually a big difference in weight, to be honest, from my feeling. I'd say at least 1kg.

He is getting into cycling a lot with the last few weeks, hence the quick upgrades. From the few times he's been out on the Defy 2, I think he's mind is decided. ;)

sounds a bit fishy to me, so if you decided to keep it yourself, where is your waranty in case anything goes wrong with it?

i have never come accross any shop that doesnt give out receipts

If something goes wrong with a bike I have bought off him, I bring it in to him and he fixes it. That's about it.

I'll get back to you on this tonight or tomorrow morning. Just rang the shop and he's not in.

EDIT: he does give receipts, but only if you ask for them.

I have now a receipt for the bike. It was actually purchased on July 5, so just over 2 weeks old.
