have always been a bit of an NSU fan ,so treated myself to this one off E bay.
engine is in pieces, has been so for 14 years, and car garaged.

Got it home home by a transporter Birminghan to County Armagh for £240

Picked it yesterday with my friend Gerry Molly ,an NSU addict/Expert

Workshop manual and hand book too.

Will post more pics as job progresses.

    Regards ,Rugbyman

Best of luck with it Rugbyman, always fancied one of them. I knew someone in a car club in Frankfurt years ago who had a 1000TTS, mad yoke altogether, had 65bhp as standard but they were often tuned up to 90, 100 and more bhp! They had chronic overheating so they were often driven around with the bonnet open. brilliant handling though.

Nostalgia and JEALOUSY setting in fast. I had four of them, well a 110 and then three 1200CS. And my white one was a September 71.

I should have a sales brochure somewhere. I'll let you know when/if I find it.

    Hello Mikekc

just shows how one can read a sentence in different ways. I meant that giving away the Prinz 4 to a good home(and what a home) was a good idea,

That car is now semi restored, and when finished will be excellent. My 1200 is now alongside it, pics tonight if my son plays ball. No, he is not playing, tomorrow ,he says.
Giving away the Prinz4 reignited an old friendship .the same friend is now getting stuck into the 1200.

As I recall you are doing serious work on a blue one.
I understand there is a meet in August but I will be on holiday.

    Regards, Rugbyman

Hi Rugbymand congrats on your new buy.
The next NSU club outing is on Sunday 24th next at Mountbellew vintage show.
Gerry will know about it and hopefully is attending with his TT. Check our club website for details and NSU photos.

my first attempt to attach a pic. here goes

the engine of my car had been stripped down 14 years ago, parts greased and put in a box . the pistons turned out to be slightly damaged and a new set were purchased from Germany. they cost half the price of the car but are necessary and should leave me with a long term ,in effect a new engine.

Barrels re bored , and new pistons fitted.

    regards Rugbyman

Is it not good to see me making progress

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭rugbyman

    getting the hang of this

1 gleaming rebored cylinder and new piston

    2 pistons 2 and 3 at TDC

3 crankshaft checked, in good order

4 fuzzy pic of heads, all rebuilt , nearly 100 euro on guides etc

5 one of the original pistons, damaged while extracting rusted rings ,years earlier

I cannot take any credit for this work, my friend Gerry Molloy is the man on this job.

    Thanks Gerry

An oversight on my part I humbly apologise. Now when do I get the pics

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭rugbyman

i mentioned earlier that the engine was getting a full rebuild, re bore, new pistons, valve guides, fuel pump, ,gaskets and oil seals. Gerry sourced all new parts from Germany. An NSU club member in Ireland had Generously donated pistons but new ones were the chosen route.

All parts scrupiously cleaned , polished even.

    Some pics.

Oh, delay in photo department. learned how to do this, stuck now, back later

different kettle of fish here. Gerry is also restoring an NSU Fox(i think) for his grandson.
the threads in the head for the exhaust were worn our , a local genius/engineer rebuilt it all for himm
