    Hi all..
Was wondering if anyone knows if this Sapido RB1732 Router would be compatible with my E160G on the 3 network.. for about €55 delivered from e-bay it seems good enough value..
Not knowing much about routers combined with wireless broadband, do they work without being permanently connected to a PC..I'd like to set it up in our loft where the broadband is about 3X faster...

Please feel free to recommend another product that will work as described and cover a decent area..

    Thanks

A 3G connection is never permanent, and using a router won't change that. It doesn't have to be connected to a PC all the time though, but you may lose Internet connectivity depending on the network conditions.

You need to check the router's compatibility list to see if the modem is supported. The 3G network you use will be irrelevant.

I have the Spido RB-1132 and use the Huawei E122 from 3ireland and it works perfectly with a permanent connection, these routers will reboot the the 3g dongle in the event of a drop in connection. The RB-1732 does support the E106G. Check the support list at this link if you want http://www.sapido.com.tw/EN/data/service/rb1732_35g.htm

I've bought it and it's currently in transit...
I'll post back when I get it set up and report on how it's working....

Well the modem arrived on Friday...
Worked simple, plug it in and plug in the dongle... wi-fi everywhere in the house. No set up required at all.

The difference has been unbelievable, it's currently set up in a bedroom window facing the 3 mast which is about 1.5 miles away..
We went from not being able to get Google to load to watching RTE realplayer.
We were getting consistant disconnects and periods of weak signal. Haven't had any period of no internet access since..

    Very happy indeed...

It comes with an Asian style plug, so a work-round is required.
All instructions in Chinese, didn't use them. (we have no neighbors or road within 300 meters so security is less of a concern for us)
