Just wondering what people make of the state of the road I had the pleasure to drive on yesterday? From the Omni Shopping center all the way to the airport was in a disgraceful condition. Huge potholes everywhere and what can only be described as a trench right down the middle of road! No line painting etc.. Im aware of the normal state of roads in Ireland but im tellin yeh now this was actual third world stuff. Even worse tourists tend to use this road into Dublin. I wonder what they must think?

So any chance of somebody fixing this bloody road? Which was only completely resurfaced a few years back btw. What a wonderful country this is. It's getting so bad there will be an accident.

There are two tender notices from Fingal CC concerning the R132 (old Dublin to Swords road). One package involves a total overlay from Santy Cross (R104 Oscar Traynor Road) to Collinstown Cross (South Eastern corner of Dublin Airport). The other package involves overlaying the R132 from the Cloghran Roundabout (North Eastern corner of the airport) to Swords Pinnock Hill Roundabout.

The was a plan by Fingal CC to widen the section from Collinstown Cross to the main airport entrance to D3 standard (1 bus and 2 traffic lanes each way). However, I've heard nothing of this lately - wonder if the money for that scheme was diverted to the M1 instead - after all, they're due to widen the M1 to D3 standard to as far as Jct 4 Lissenhall - this work is being funded by Fingal CC, not the NRA.

    Hope this helps!

I'm old enough to remember before the first section of the M1 opened and the now R132 was the main road to the airport. It was quite unusual in that it was an S4 arrangement (like the Merrion Road used to be).

It was probably upgraded and widened from an S2 to S4 when the current Terminal 1 at Dublin airport originally opened in 1972. I havent travelled on it lately but it would still be used by people going from Whitehall/Santry/Glasnevin and Ballymun to the airport. Hopefully it will be resurfaced very soon.
