Hi all, newly registered but long time reader!!!

I want to know if anyone here has bought a cat d car from the uk recently and brought it home to ireland?what does the records show when you get the VRT done over here.Has anybody had much difficulty to selling the car on afterwards.

As often happens in the uk,there wasn't much damaged done to the car,but i have already got a data check done on the car and will get the AA to do a full check on the car too.

Is there any other things i should be doing along with this?

    Thanks in advance!!!

You'll still pay the full VRT, AFAIK you don't get any discount for importing a damaged repairable.

I believe a small discount is applied to a CatD w/o for VRT purposes, and the new VLC will look "clean".

A HPI check will however reveal the cars past.

These cars should only ever be bought at a significant discount, as they'll be less valuable down the road irrespective of the standard of the repairs.

I have been offered about 35% below the uk market price and when it has a vrt done here it will be about €15000 cheaper than a similar car here. Would that be a considerable reduction in your opinion and worthwhile?

€15000 cheaper than a similar car thats no crash history or one thats also been an economic write off?

How much money will it take to make it fully functional again, by chance?

it has already been repaired and the aa will be looking at it tomorrow, retails here at around €35000 but will get it cleared for about €20,000 total. I don't really see myself selling it anytime soon either.

    What car is it?
If those figures are accurate, I personally would think it is definitely worth it!

    Sounds like a huge saving!

There are a huge amount of Cat-D cars out there that have only had minor damage, but expensive, damage.

So if the repairs are done and it's coming in that cheap... sounds good.

Surely the VRT would have to reimburse some money to you, even after an appeal, based on the fact that the cars OMSP is clearly lessened by the Cat-D bit?

Just make sure you get the reports beforehand to make sure that the damage isn't too severe and that you'd be comfortable with it.
