    Guys,

never drove a diesel before.. even sat into one but looking at these...

a 06 model ish. are these high maintenance..? i mean expensive services, the milage would prob be in excess of 100k.

just wondering if it would be a bad purchase, any owners here?

I have heard of problems with the timing chain, Injectors and fuel pump with them. I have never owned one, so don't take my word on this ha!

The other very annoying thing about them, is the engine is 2204cc, so taxed as a 2.3, over 800quid a year for an 06 one:eek:. You could take a gamble though and bank on the government changing all 2nd hand cars on to the co2 emissions band in the budget, which would drop this down to 440ish a year!

I posted this in another thread a little while ago:

We only had/have 3 Accord 2.2CDTi's on fleet, but looking through the history:

2004 - Made it to 130,000miles with nothing but standard servicing, tyres and accident repair.

2007 - Repairs to the manifold under warrranty at 107,000km. Made it to 150,000km with no other mechanical mishaps.

2006 - Still going strong at an estimated 257,000km (serviced 17/06 with 253,475km). Had a drive shaft replaced at 195,000km, and except for a couple of Petrol in Diesel episodes, nothing else to report.

I know it's not a huge sample group, but I'd be going towards reliable rather than unreliable based on that.

Tax is the killer at €860 a year, but a standard service should be around €200 as long as there is nothing out of the ordinary.

A rattling timing chain is something important to watch out for. A very expensive problem to put right if it needs changing.

Keep an eye on the forum as I may be posting some important information relating to this later today.

Have a 05 one and apart from the tax, I've nothing bad to say about it.
Had the manifold done free under warranty last year and service costs are about 160 at my garage (not a honda one - they'll fleece ya!).

Have about 120,000 miles on it and it's still going strong so yeah, if you can put up with the tax, it's a joy.

Well the accord diesel, and a few other modern large engined diesel cars which are crucified under the engine cc tax rule, but actually have a low enough co2 rating would be the very few cars to actually benefit from such a move. I think without doubt the A,B and C co2 tax rates will increase in the Budget, which is understandable considering you can tax a 520d for 156 a year at the minute, but the f**kers surely cannot tax the higher Co2 emitting cars anymore!!!

Work colleague bought an 08 had had trouble with the manifold. I didn't ask what the problem was exactly but he bought in the UK and brought it back to Ireland.
It cost him a heap of money though.
My recommendation is look on the Honda forums and see what engine this manifold issue affects.
Usual service history checks after that.

I've an 05, in the garage now having four injectors reconditioned, €1200:mad:

Other than that, sweet as a nut, very comfortable, all it lacks is a jack for my ipod :(

Turbos and injectors are to be watched!

And yeah, tax is fucking robbery.

I've an 06 and it's trouble free. I do 24k miles per year and have had no mechanical issues. Tax is a dog. A few posters mentioned the manifold but this is replaced under warranty if it gives problems. Around 55mpg and snug but I do find the dead pedal and clutch pedal too close together. Also find the seat a bit too deep. Much better car than the Mondeo.
