Fracking - A Coming Catastrophe?

Fracking for natural gas - where very deep wells are drilled into shale rock beds that hold pockets of natural gas and are then injected with high pressure water, sand and numerous highly toxic chemicals, is becoming a major environmental concern in the USA, where this practice of extracting methane gas is at its most developed.

There are now plans to use this fracking technique to extract gas from the Lough Allen basin in County Letirim, which could have devastaing health and environmental effects if the poisonous cehmicals get into the water supply or the river Shannon itself. Is risking the future of the Shannon basin really worth it for profits for gas and oil companies?:(

I think I've heard of "issues" with this in the UK as well, Can't remember where I read about it though. It's banned in France.

Not my area of expertise. It should be pointed out, however, that oil and gas companies make profits because they manufacture products that people want.

Maybe that question should be re-phrased as 'Is risking the future of the Shannon basin really worth it so that we can drive our cars?'

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be in favour of onshore fracking.

There are two good, objective interviews on fracking on the IGI website, www.igi.ie for anyone who's interested. One of the more significant things is that the companies involved say that they won't need to use additives, just water. That is a totally plausible scenario, with plenty of precedent.

Follow this Canadian woman Jesse Ernst who has taken fracking mining company Encana in Canada to court . She also came to Ireland to explain to Irish the sheer vast scale horror story of fracking. She for example has to drive with her pick over a hundred miles to bring in clean drinking and washing water as the water around her is too toxic to even touch it

The air is so polluted its more like living in a oil refinery .The air is nearly close to too toxic to live in that region for hundreds of square miles She lives in the middle for nowhere with often neighbors several miles away and small town often large distances .
Fracking can make in short time periods hundreds of square miles uninhabitable to animals and humans and make crops grown there to toxic to eat . Fracking can make hundreds of square miles of overground and underground water sources to toxic for life form to drink or even wash or bath in.

The reality of fracking is has nothing to do with extracting gas and everything to do with a scorched earth policy and blue gold .
It seems that often the oil and gas companies that do the fracking have before hand bought up all the local rights to selling the water in one region .
Then they go to the rest of the surrounding regions and ensure that they destroy all the above and underground water in the rest of the regions with injecting toxic chemicals and frequently they use diesel oils .
Once all the water for many hundreds of square miles around is now too poisonous to drink they then have a new water company open up in the region that hasn't been fracked and with this non poisonous water they sell it for a premium price to the locals who used to get water for a fraction of the price.
Locals also cant grow food as the toxic water makes all the crops too toxic to eat

The fracking companies when entering regions always promise they will only use water to extract the gas and they always lie and use chemicals and diesel fuels .
They also use very fine sands that if breathed in act like asbestos and these sands get blown all around the region killing everything.
These fracking companies often barely make as much energy as they extract from the ground .They have to repeatedly drill bore holes close to each other as the extraction methods rarely take gas from more than 50 feet from a bore hole .
If it is taken into account the gas extraction companies often inject diesel oil and we do our energy sums a high density energy rich fuel like diesel extracting a low energy density fuel like gas you would have to conclude from energy and economic projections that fracking isn't a very economically viable solution compared to other forms of oil and gas extraction .
Some mining company reports suggest fracking is a barley viable form of gas extraction.The energy inputs barley exceed the energy outputs .However it is rumored that the advantage for the fracking and oil and gas industry is that the expensive to dispose of oil waste and chemical products that the routinely make at oil refinery's and similar can now be just dumped into the ground under the cover of the fracking industries need to pump chemicals into the ground .Some reports even suggest that the real reason to do fracking is simply to dump the oil toxic products into the ground . Gas production if it occurs is just a interesting side effect that helps cover the costs .Those that would say surly it costs a bomb to inject diesel fuel are not aware that for the oil companies diesel fuel costs are often less than 20 cents a liter .Oil companies do not have to pay tax on diesel they don't sell to the country transport and heating uses so it simply the cost of the raw material from the refinery If its low quality coke oil grade diesel fuel that is costly to reform into higher quality diesel fuel then this diesel fuel worth is a few cents a liter at best and when oil prices are low is classed as oil waste products to be treated at a expensive oil waste specialist company.
One city in Ivory west Africa (links below) had the misfortune to be used as dumping ground for ~500 tons of highly toxic oil waste . The poisoning of the locals happened as the toxic products taken off the ship in barrels were poured down local sewer drains .It killed some people and injured many and over 100,000 people needed medical attention with many thousands of people permanently injured . From the supplied video we can see that the same types of often lethal poisoning effects to the locals are taking place and the theory that fracking is really just a new way to dump oil waste is becoming much more provable .
Often even the drilling crews mostly not in unions are getting injured and killed from the toxic nature of Fracking . However for oil and gas extraction companies they can always find new crews to replace sick or dead drilling crews.

The way to sum up fracking is say fracking is a process that is done for economic reasons that don't make any real sense. For non oil industry people it often hurts the locals and their environment where the fracking takes place .This damage is usually lasting for decades and often even for periods that could exceed a few hundred years . Sometimes gas is produced as side effect . Others say more clearly it it is a scorched earth depopulation policy and gas extraction is only the Trojan horse that allows this to happen
Given a few decades of intensive fracking all around Ireland we would find that most all of Ireland would become a toxic waste land where only a few small region were remaining barely habitable. The population of Ireland would be forced to cram in there pay high prices for small patches of land and import water and food at very high prices from the few remaining regions with cleanish water and safe-ish food production.

Fracking is a neighbour from hell out to exterminate you coming to place near to you .

Trafigura and the Ivory coast pollution event


The basics of the Ivory Coast oil waste dumping pollution event are simple. In court the oil waste dumping company was forced to pay out Billions in compensation to people from Accra in Ivory Coast west Africa. The company Trafigura is a large mineral ore and oil company which sent the ship full of about 500 tons of highly toxic oil waste products to Ivory Coast in 2009 .
When the ship arrived they got trucks and filled open oil barrels of this oil waste into these barrels. The trucks then drove around the city pouring this toxic waste into the cities sewerage drains and local river and streams.
The real questions is was this done purely to save money or just some sort of accident or was it done as experiment to see what levels of oil waste pollution would impact the most people .
The story starts in Texas USA . A tanker load of coke oil was taken from Texas to Norway. There the oil was pumped into onshore tanks. Then Lye was added to this waste oil . The small remaining oil products like low grade gasoline and low grade diesel oils separated out and were pulled off. These low grade products were then shipped to a Lithuania and mixed in with refined fuels. These contaminated fuels were then shipped to west Africa to be used in car and trucks where the allowed levels of Sulfer content is higher EU limit is 50ppm where as west Africa it more like 5000 PPM.
The now very toxic waste was put on a ship and sent to Holland .There they tried to pass it off as ship slops .That didn’t work so the Dutch demanded 1/2 million dollars to take this toxic waste to be cleaned up. The ship then sailed to west Africa where it dumped this toxic waste in Ivory Coast.

For a large corporation non of this made any sense economically when you look oil prices of that period
It was pretty clear that the company doing the dumping could never possibly expect not to end up in court for openly dumping these toxic products in a major city in Africa . Logic dictates the $ 1/2Million dollars for the Dutch to repossess the toxic oil waste was far cheaper than paying over $1 Billion in compensation to the people of Ivory coast .However if the experiment was successful as vast laboratory experiment then it might be worth the price to see the long term effects in closed environment if depopulation is your agenda

The logical suspicion is that the oil company involved did this to experiment what levels of toxic oil waste are needed to exterminate the peoples of the city .
The fracking policies of creating massive pollution on purpose also fit this agenda
There are also many reasons why they want to depopulate most of Ireland and I will supply that info at a later date

Derry, I have spotted an advert for "C h e v r o n Recruitment,, side of a van. The script of the adv . states that C R. are looking to take on ppl for training to install water meters. I know this is a long shot (dearly hope so) but C h e v r o n are also a leading name in US Oil exploration. what do you think of this?
So now one can gather why the identity of the 'fracking 'chemicals' are kept a trade secret..

Blue gold is the name of the game .This might mean they destroy most of the countries water supplies to get the price up
It might mean they use fracking as threat weapon to get us to surrender and they take all the water rights .
