Hey, this might be a long shot but its worth a try. A lot of people have recommended the John petrucci music man custom:
    http://www.music-man.com/instruments/guitars/john-petrucci-7.html

They cost around the same as it would to get a luthier to build you a custom guitar so theirs no way I would order one blindly. If any of you know somebody who has one of these it would be a great help because I would love to try one.

    Cheers
    Lorcan

For what it's worth, I've played his guitar and it is really, really nice. I can't imagine anyone would be disappointed if they were to pick one up.

If I recall correctly though didn't he get a BFR JP7? Those are even more expensive again and come with different body woods to the standard model. I'm looking at getting another nice 7 myself, I'm thinking of going with Carvin unless I can find a good deal on a used petrucci.

There are threads here and here detailing the two guitar purchases I was thinking of. I'd actually forgotten about the green one. It was nice too as I recall ;).

A friend of mine had one, very nice guitar altogether. It was a standard one, not a BFR.

To me Ernie Ball seems to be the ideal point between price and quality, everyone of their guitars I've played has been lovely, and there's some good secondhand prices on them too.

I've played a lukather and an axis as well, and to me, the axis was the nicest of the lot of them.

Hi there ive got a BFR JP 6 string model.I am the first in the Ireland to have one as far as i know having bought it in 2007 when they were first released.
Only problem is i am in cork.I have a friend in Dublin who has one also. They dont stock them anywhere in Ireland so you,d have to go to the uk to try one out otherwise.

Ive also got a 25th Anniversary musicman which is now called the reflex model. The 25ths were a limited run to comemorate 25 yrs making guitars.

I had one fully loaded with the fancy green paint. Sold it mint for €1350.

Don't miss it all that much. Basswood body, solid colour, no binding, 2 Dimarzio's, floating bridge, average neck compared to the Axis, rosewood fingerboard, Schaller tuners. Not sure why the high retail price for that spec.

Cheers!!! They look amazing!!!! He has closed his account though and doesn't seem to have any contact information. Does he live in Galway? I may have come across him on sevenstring.org

They are very expensive. For the price of a new one I could get a custom guitar made.

Yeah, I think he has the same username over there. As do I with a massive 3 posts or something :p He's a friend of mine in real life so if you want me to pass on a message, send me a PM. I'm long overdue meeting him for a beer and it is race week after all :).
