Folks, looking for a bit of advice. Which pet shops around town do engraving of contact details on a collar? The cat is beginning to explore and it wasn't part of the plan as he's a bit of a garden to charge around in.

Secondly, is there such a thing as a electrical fence device to stop cats travelling thats similar to the device that is made for dogs? If so, where can you get them? I've tried a few Internet searches but have found nothing but think i'm using the wrong search terms.

    Thanks in advance, C

http://www.identitag.co.uk/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=5 This is where I got my cat and dog tags, much better quality than anywhere else Iv gotten them done and the plastic ones are very lightweight for cats. It's €1 for postage and I got mine within 2 or 3 days from ordering.

As for the electric fence for cats, no thankfully Iv not seen them sold for cats over here. Apart from the cruel aspect of them I can't imagine a cat putting up with one, cats are smart and I doubt it would take too long to figure out if they pull the collar off they can roam and it wouldn't be safe to have a collar on a cat that does not break free with pressure put on it as they often get caught on branches and such.
You could look into an alternative such as these http://www.purrfectfence.com/ http://www.katzecure.com/ http://www.oscillot.com.au/testimonialsNEW.htm Or look at building a cat run. Or just keeping her indoors altogether as i do with my cat.

Thanks Zapperzy, i away to check them out.

I'ld love to keep him indoors but he's quiet an active cat and he likes to run so its a tough call.

If your garden is up to it, you could fence it in like this: http://www.purrfectfence.co.uk/outdoor_cat_enclosures.asp

How do you think he'd react to a harness and lead? Iv mine trained to it and she loves it! :D

I got a fence from them for my garden and it's the best investment ever.

I have a boy with FIV and didn't want him getting near the neighbouthood cats - just in case. This way all four of my cats get to play out in the garden without risk to themselves or any others. It's tried and tested as all four of them have tried it at some stage but haven't managed to get anywhere close to escaping.

It's dead easy to put up too. Out garden is only small (about 80 feet by 20) and myself and the OH had it done in about 2 hours.

Wasn't keen on it at all and had trouble getting him to allow it to be put on him and he has since used it as toy. But its no harm giving it another go even though i like the idea of the purrfect fence.

Here's a good thread with tips for training them to walk on a harness. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69890785

I would love the purrfect fence also or either of the other 2 I posted but unfortunately it's not allowed because 'the neighbours would think there living next to alcatraz'. Not to mention our garden is quite large with a lot of niggly bits such as gates and shed so I'd imagine it would be quite expensive to do. :(
