    New Arsenal striker's grandfather was an ex-priest from Roscommon.

    On Sky Sports this evening twas said that Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell who has signed for Arsenal could have played for Ireland cos his grandfather was a former missionary priest FR Noel Campbell from Roscommon.


    "Campbell could have played for the Republic of Ireland as his grandfather was an ex-Irish missionary priest Fr. Noel Campbell from Roscommon, Ireland."

    "Campbell was selected in Costa Rica's squad for the 2009 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, he was the team's highest scorer, scoring two goals in total. He was named in the 2011 CONCACAF U-20 Championship two years later and finished the competition as top scorer with six goals. Campbell could have played for the Republic of Ireland as his grandfather was an ex-Irish missionary priest Fr. Noel Campbell from Roscommon, Ireland.

    He officially debuted in Costa Rica's national team on June 5, 2011 in the Gold Cup, scoring one goal.

    On 7 July 2011, he scored his second international goal, against Bolivia."
