I did this almost three years ago when I first got the car, scuffed the black plastic trim off a gatepost pillar. I just never bothered to get it fixed as its not too noticeable.

At its deepest, its maybe 1.5mm deep. I was thinking of sanding it right down and respraying it, however was worried that the paint wouldn't match the rest of the black trim.

    Any thoughts?

My eyes are killing me, so I can't really see it properly. If it's black plastic, there's not much you can do other than replace it with secondhand ones, or paint it. Painting trim IMHO, isn't great - the liklihood of it coming off in a few years is strong. I've seen stuff turned out by bodyshops that flaked off atfer a few years, even with keying the plastic, plastic primer, and plenty of time to bake.

Bought a 318 afew months back which an Alsatian had chewed on 2 corners! Very noticable bite marks on both sides of the back bumper. It was too rough to sand as the plastic was very hard, so I filed it down with a hand file until it was smooth. Filled it with Isopon, primed with grey and then put on 3 coats of satin black aerosol. Up close, theres a difference between the shiny new sections and the older dull dumper, but from 5 feet away, you'd never notice. I wasnt too worried as its just an old '98 diesel and the paintwork is tired anyway, but I improved it so Im happy.

Black hides a multitude of sins so if you can level it out nicely and respray then Id imagine it would be next to unnoticeable. That looks like a nice machine so maybe you should wait for the PaintDoctor's verdict!

Hmm, the colour is the main problem so.

Sorry about the pic, its from a few years back and was off the wheel, was the only one I could find with the scuff in it. Here it is today:

I sanded it down a bit ages ago, its a lot smoother but obviously looks bad. Trouble is with getting a new piece of trim is that its connected to a body-coloured panel so i'd have to find an orient blue one or get a replacement resprayed. :/
