i went through loads of bad stages
    1. always chased even if having a bad day no winners always thought i must get back to the money i started with
    2. if i got there i would want more instead of walking
    3. i would think that i never have made enough money so carry on then lose then try to get back to money i came in with then have none

i am in a happier place now just do golf and sit and enjoy it win or lose horses i do in pub but never to a stage i was

anyone gone through them stages or any others

Went through the same stage for while, when in college used to bet on stupid things like rapido and virtual horse racing...Really stupid..

I then worked in bookies while I was finishing my masters and had to back horse nearly everyday and football.. I was lucky though that I won lot of money before I started to go on losing streak. I remember one time doing 2 trebles in Italian football for fiver each both came through and I won over 400quid..Few weeks later did a 4treble and 1fourfold on Spanish football and won over 800quid from 40e stake. The funny (maybe lucky) thing about all those 10 games is all the teams won by one goal..

I was just on a roll.. Had placepots come in for grand from 10c stake and all that...The 2006 cheltehnam I had two 33/1 winners Hot Weld and Kaldrun(not sure on spelling he ended up 50/1) and Wyso Mayo along with the winner of Gold Cup...I could do no wrong for those 5-6months..

Then things started to go against me and I back a little bit more here and there without getting the results I used to. Thankfully I was not betting that big be still only fivers and tenners but I was losing and going on bad run...

Working in bookies was a eye opener though too. Even though I was getting good info the shop I used to work with was a area which had some plenty of people in the know too they can have barren spells as much as anybody.. I would always know when certain customers were winning or taking a hammering by there mood etc and I was starting to be the same...On a winner I be delighted and when losing I start to get into moods.

Thankfully I gave up betting for god while bar the Golf Majors and do ante post football bets for 3 years..

Now I do bit of gambling but enjoy it a whole lot more and seem to win few quid too from a good bit of hard work looking into my bets.

Golf, Football (mostly antepost) and GAA are really the only bets I do now bar Horse racing tips from time to time and the festivals but my stake would be low. I only back Golf from the Masters to end August.

I can go into a bookies now and not have a bet just for sake of one. I always look for value hence why Betfair is my number one betting site I use although may change to betdaq soon with the charges

ive lost god knows what over the years through bookies and online PP/hills ect ect.sure i had the few big wins but on a whole i was flogging a dead horse.

a mate introduced me to betfair 2 1/2 year ago..roughly the same time i lost my job due to the recession..i then decided to give betfair a go as a means of income and took its seriously..after 4 months i decided to stop playing on the football and play on golf and GAA.ive had small plays on the football since(if watching a game ect)..

the reckless/cocky streak still shines through from time to time and last month i recorded my first bad month since joinng betfair..had losses of 840 euro.

id gladly take a nine to five job over trying to punt for income anyday..sitting infront of the lappy/pc all day watching golf for 4 days solid does get you down and its an emotional rollercoaster at times.

overall i dont think i have the discipline for it,as that wild streak always lurks in the backround..but while i can keep the head screwed on for the moment its managing to pay bills thankfully, because god knows where id be without it.

After every winner AP McCoy fears he won't have another, I've mentioned elsewhere on the gambling forum that punters are preconditioned to losing eventually, society almost demands it. Use your suspicion that you don't think you have the discipline to your advantage :)

And well done on the success so far, don't let the losing month bother you, learn from it and regroup, the very very very best of luck with it and the jobhunting too of course.

i know exactly what your saying about using discipline and agree with you..

punting the football has never shown me a consistent level of profit that golf has shown so far..yet i was wanting to lay odds on teams in the prem, all after i made my mind up to stay clear and my profit and loss history has shown football isnt doing it for me..thats the lack of discipline which im talking about..

the losing month or real bad weekend i had never made me chase(thankfully)..before when id have a big loss,i cant really explain it..but its like a mist descends..and ill throw money on anything at the time once its in play..it usually ended up with an empty account:rolleyes:

whether ive learned..or whether its a case that i really depend on profit now i dont really know.

BTW i agree with your reply in my other thread:D

Ah the mist, that's a bit of the addictive part, the compulsion, I get that too but try to f off away from gambling the minute I sense it coming :)
Bookies rely on that part of our nature to make their money, control the reaction to the mist and you've a fighting chance.

About your other thread, if you stick to laying the teams that were involved in the Champs League the few days before the matches you won't go far wrong. The way I'd do it though is lay them when they are shorter than 2/1 on regardless of if they are home or away with a stake of €20, after their first non win than I wouldn't lay them again until after they win after a champs league match. I won't be doing it as I have my work cut out with my horses log and don't want to be messing about with football bets, don't want too many pots on the stove so to speak.

I reckon I'll do a virtual log though on it for the craic :)

i done it for the first two months of last season and it showed profit..maybe taking on the odds on early in the season until teams find their feet and as you say after champions league?laying man utd away last season would of defo showed profit i reckon,as they were woeful on the road until after christmas.

the best buzz ive had was two week ago in how stricker ended up winning the john deere to sink that putt on the last..while the win wasnt massive, the feeling was as good as any big win ive ever had..tbh i think it was a combination of coming through a bad patch and putting the feelings that you'll never win again to bed..i had lost out to 3 playoffs the few weeks before and had a disaster on mcdowell in wales.when its good it great, but when its bad the self doubt can eat you up.

The best buzz for me personally is when I pick a winner in the horse racin, but that's probably cause that rarely ever happens :P
