Recovery supplements

I was wondering if anyone here uses supplements on a regular basis as part of their training? Specifically I'm looking for advice on recovery after hard track sessions or long runs. Is there any product you found particularly helpful to your training? I eat like a horse after hard runs as it stands but I'm looking for anything that will help me a little more. All I have at the moment are bananas and brown bread haha.

I only ask as I have no experience with any thing like this. I've heard chocolate milk is a good one? Thanks for any replies.

Chocolate milk is a good one, has the right balance of protein and carbs. I have whey protein powder that I mix with milk as well.

The juries out on whether supplements are worth the money. Some swear by the choc milk. I started using the whey protein, it was half price in holland and barrett but I can't say I've noticed any advantage.
The most important thing is a good, sensible diet.
I'd say alot of supplement benefits are in your head rather than physical and all you have is expensive urine and lighter pockets. But if you think they work, then they do.

I use USN Recovery Xcell. I find it good.

I was in Majorca at a cycling training camp recently and some of the top fella's seem to swear by protein bars, they'd be wolfing them down after the spins.

2 of the lads I train with reckon chocolate milk is the best option too, never tired it myself tho.

Protein shakes are dead handy when you rush from work to a race, don't get a full dinner and then get home too late to cook something up, or something that won't keep you awake for hours after you eat it. Its not always that practical to have a balanced diet, so supplements have their use.

I use protien bars, from the same place I got stuff from when I was doing my diet. I always have one [or at very least part of one] right after a hard run.

The ones I use could do with a few more carbs to be "perfect" balance wise for what a runner needs - but I like them, and get them at a discount, so they will do :)

Some here believe beer/cider is the perfect recovery drink after a hard race.;)

How much protein is needed to be classed at recovery supplement?

My stomach can get a bit cranky if I have to much dairy, so I usually try to have a boilded egg or mackeral after, is this enough?
