Ring Britton insurance(a broker) in donegal & ask them about their insurance through Asgard.

Axa are always way higher, seems to me they dont want to deal with young drivers. & have to actually compared what your really getting between both policies? Look beyond just third party F&T or whatever, the actual terms of the insurance are probably very different for both.

Don't get your hopes up with the Tesco quote, apparently they require you to have two years NCB with a different insurer.

I think Hibernian might still do their Ignition courses?

They do, but to do that you have to have your Full Licence.

If you can get one of your parents to insure it and go as a named driver on their insurance. Even if they already have a car in their own name if you can convince them to change their no claims over to you do it! It'll bring yours down by like €1500 euro and theirs won't go up by anywhere near that much.
I went with axa last year, same thing 17 with a provisional license and it only added something like €200 on to my dads insurance! That was with himself, my mother, my brother (24) and me all insured on a 2005 1.8 mondeo. It worked out about 800 total iirc.
I found axa pretty good, they take your no claims bonus into account even if it was only as a named driver, and you'll probably be in college next year or the year after their student account will give you a lot of benefits inclusing updating your no claims bonus regularly mid-policy. So every couple of months your payments will go down

And if they're not actually the primary driver of the vehicle, then it invalidates the insurance in the event of a claim.

    Don't do this.

Also named experience is about as useful as a used tissue when getting insurance

They're not too strict about this.. I've been stopped a couple of times and they've told me I should have a driver with me but never really went into it much.

Once your not being an eejit and have your L plates up I wouldn't stress too much

Look up "Asgard". They're a branch off "LLOYDS" (yes, that's two "L"s not a type-o). I got them using insure.ie as a broker.

Do yourself a favour, and set the excess to €300 when looking for quotes online. This means any damage that costs under €300 you pay it. Means that if you don't crash, you'll get cheaper insurance. No excess equals some of the cheaper options are closed off from you.
