    Hey all.

I have a 18 month old male samoyed, perfect temperment, trained to a high standard by myself and obedient! He gets along great with other dogs & i have NEVER seen him snap or even growl at another dog, he just loves all dogs and all he wants to do is play around all the time with dogs.

Even with exercise he is very hyper when he meets a dog firstly

I know an excellent breeder of bernese mountain dogs & she has puppies they are about 12/13 weeks old now & i am thinking of getting one.

my samoyed is no way territorial , the thing i am worried about is the bernese trying to "bully" my dog..

should i get a male or female bernese ? (my samoyed isnt neutered)

the thing i really would like to know would the two breeds get along well ?

Please reply to this post ,And thank you , Jamie:)

There is no reason why they shouldnt get on to be honest. I would recommend a female instead of a male as usually the opposite sex get on great.

You will need to neuter one or the other if possible or when she comes into season its going to be a nightmare for you otherwise.

I have a male and female rottie and they get on brilliant. The male was nearly 4 when i got the female and they get on brilliant.

Both mine are entire as i show them both and you cant neuter them. My female is on her second season at the moment and its not fun:( Ive had to leave her in my parents for the guts of a week while shes full on in season as my male cannot cope with her being around.

Is there a reason you need to keep the Samoyed entire?

I don't have a Samoyed but I would imagine it's like with all dogs when you introduce them, you have to set the boundaries and let them know what's acceptable behaviour and what's not.

On the few occasions we've had to go to family weddings, my dogs have gone to a house with a few Bernese Mountain dogs in it. The dog minder breeds them and they are the most placid creatures I've ever seen. My small terrier cross likes to make out that she is the boss of them (small dog, big personality syndrome) and apparently all they do is just sit there and go 'meh' before they all curl up together and have a snooze.

I have a samoyed male myself and totally agree they are so gentle natured, he loves all dogs ( pity all dogs didnt love him e.g small snappy dogs ) neways Ive met the odd bernese mountain doggies on walks and they seem to get along great, sniffing and jumping around.. look at this vid on youtube of a samoyed and bernese mountain pup!! very cute!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9DiH07PugM :p

I have a bernese lab x, and he is great with any dog he meets but if you get a female, one will need the snip for sure

Thank you everbody for your' posts. The only reason why I havn't neutured my samoyed is because i show him also. I think I would go for a female going on yer advice & get her neutured as soon as she reaced the age for it.
@amzie I was looking at all of your youtube videos earlier before i posted this thread & your dogs are beautiful.

Thanks a mil for all of yer advice i really appreciate it :)

In short, no, these dogs would not get along.

Well, not just get along that is, they would probably end up being each other's shadows. Sammies and Berns have amazing temperaments, definitely two of the most easygoing breeds out there, so I'd say they'd be perfect for each other.
The only thing you will have to watch for is the bernese playing too much with the sammie when she's young, growing bones and joints are under a lot of pressure for the first 19-24months and its doubtful she'd be able to keep up with a sammoyed's energy levels. And ensure that these puppies are well-socialised, a lot of bernese are being bred lately that grow into nervous, skittish adults because they weren't properly socialised as puppies. Also make sure you ask the breeder for proof of hip scoring of the parents, I know an eleven month old bern who was recently diagnosed with hip dysplasia:(

I am delighted to hear that they would make great friends. Ok thanks a mil for the advice. Thats terrible and only eleven months old :( yes they are reputable breeders & I have met both the mother and father of the pups many times & hip scoring has been done & they are perfect. Thanks for the advice :)
