Had some damage done to my car (rear door damage, back quarter panel and rear bumper) by a third party, their fault so he agreed to cover the cost to fix it. I went away and got a quote got back to him but he said that he knows someone in Athlone that will fix it.
This panel beater is located out near the Athlone Springs hotel his name is Denis (he is a foreigner) . But I have heard that his quality of work is not great but he is cheap. Has anyone had any dealings with him?
Do I have the right to go to who ever I want if I am not happy? I know this third party as well which makes it awkward. He is not going through insurance.

I've only ever dealt with Sean Keyes Crash Repairs,Grace Rd. Neat work and pretty reasonable too.

I'm not affiliated with this company...just a satisfied punter.

Yes you get who you are happy with. If he disagrees go through the insurance.

That's what I was thinking. I know the guy so it makes it awkward. His relation is a guard, so he will know all the tricks. No insurance details were taken. He admitted he was wrong and said he would sort it out.
Just want the job to be done correctly.

Absolutely. Ive been in an almost exact same circumstance.
Its your property thats been damaged, and you are entitled to call the shots regarding repairs.

There's a guy on the old tuam road beside NCF co-op, I think his name is Dermot Higgins, and I've only heard good things about him.
He's not cheap, but you get what you pay for in this business.

Thanks gyppo, did you end up going the insurance route? Dermot was recommended to me by someone else also. I called to him for the quote. He came across as very professional.

Even if he said he would 'sort it out', it still would have made sense to get details of his insurance. Without you knowing who he's insured with he has you over a barrel.

What are you going to do if he insists on you getting your car fixed with the guy nominated by him?

Hi Sean Keyes here, I've just seen this now, you can bring your car to whoever your more comfortable with.it's the law as it's your car.

They can recommend a panel beater but it's your choice who you go with.
