What is a download limit?

We have Eircom and I think the download limit is 30 gbs. We checked it and now that everyone is home for Summer, we have gone over it the last 2 months and are almost over this month.
What exactly is the download limit? Does watching movies and shows online and downloading affect it? If you have more than one laptop/console/ipod etc with internet does that use it too?
    Does Eircom charge?
    Thanks.

Everything that comes off the Internet is downloaded. How else would you see it?

eircom charge for excess usage if you are on NGB.

Everything you do affects the download limit. Movies and stream film uses up most. As does peer to peer sharing of files. A HD film from iTunes could be almost 4gb in size and you have a 30GB limit therefore you'd go over the 30GB limit downloading only 8 films. Thats excluding doing anything else with your data allowance like browsing or email or updating machines

It's important to check that your download limit covers your usage comfortably because if you go over, any extra can be charged at quite a high rate with some providers. I don't know anything about Eircom. Check their rates and plans.

    From Eircom.ie
Is there a limit to how much I can be charged for excess usage?

The maximum you will be charged for your NGB (including excess usage & Broadband rental) is €49.99.

You will be charged €2 inc VAT per GB used above your allowance to a total of €49.99 for your Broadband package (including your Broadband rental).

If you are on the 'NGB Basic' package at €24.99, the maximum you will pay for excess usage is €24.00.

If you are on the 'NGB Regular' package at €29.99, the maximum you will pay for excess usage is €20.00.

Small point ... NGB Regular (formerly 30GB) is now unlimited so no excess usage charges there anyway ... plus ... no excess usage charging on the non-NGB products anyway (3Mb Home Plus if you have the 30GB allowance)

    B

AFAIK it is subject to a fair usage policy of 250GB.
