    Hi,

I just wanted to quickly find out the procedure for applying for rent allowance.

I will be moving to Thurles from Dublin. Do I need to apply for rent allowance before I move into a new property or must it be done once I have signed a lease?

Any help or information would be great.

    Thanks

Hey, you need to get the forms first as your landlord will have to fill out some of it and sign it. Also you'll have to deal with the clinic in Thurles, your givin a max limit that your rent can be. Its different in all areas. Your best bet would be to contact the Thurles cwo first, see what your limit is and have your forms and everything ready for when your house hunting. I found that a lot of landlords turn you away when you ask do they accept rent allowance!
If its your first time getting rent allowance you may be able to get your deposit also, again check with your cwo first.

Hope this was some help! Happy house hunting :)

Thanks for all the info :)

Won't be the first time applying for rent allowance but will be for a new house/apt if that makes sense.

I'm hoping landlords won't turn me away, and frankly I think it's a disgrace if they do. But I'll keep positive :) According to HSE the rent limit for Tipp. North is €407 per month for me, so I'll give CWO in Thurles a call just to be sure.

    Thanks again @ Lukes_Mama :)

Just to let u know, the reason alot of Landlords say no to Rent Allowance is because they have to supply their Pps number and they may not have let the Tax man know that they have a rental income!
