    Hi,

Just got my means test result back.

It states that my weekly means is €315 deducted from the family rate.

As it doesn't state on the form what I will receive. (which I would imagine is zero)

What is the family rate for a family with one kid?

    The wife works also.

Would I be eligible for anything else?

If getting zero do I still need to waste half a day signing on once a month?

    Thanks in advance

    rates for jsa
    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/JobseekerSupports/JobseekersAllowance/Pages/ja.aspx#Rates3

Your family rate would be €342 approx

Your spouse could look into Family Income Supplement

    Thanks Bono

As the wife is working does that mean the spouse/child rate would be halved?

As on JB I only got €188, should I have got more or is that the standard rate for 1 child family with the wife working?

FIS we are just over the allowance, so no joy there.

With jb you were entitled to full personal rate but not entitled to adult dependant or child dependant as your partners earnings were over the threshold. JA is means tested but it gives you a personal rate, adult dependant rate and child dependant rate before means are applied.

Hi, I've been waiting for the decision regarding my JSA for 7 months and I've received it last week, and it looks like I've received 5 euro per week :/ Maybe someone here can help me as I don't understand that. I'm cohabiting and my boyfriend was working full time till July the 1st, he was earning 350 euro per week. When I means tested myself with the info provided by the social welfare website it was around 120-130 euro per week, so why it's 5 euro now? I was working full time for 5 years until March 2010 and I'm 25. If anyone can help I will be really grateful.

I presume your going from benefit to allowance. 7 months seems a long time going from one payment to another. OK you OH is working and receiving 350 per week... so your total rate on jsa would be 188 plus 124.90 for qualified adult that brings it to 312.90. 20e per day is deducted from OH means up to a maximum of 60E his means come down to 290E take 290 for 312.90 equals 22.90 and 60% of this will be your means. If your circumstances have changed you can look for a review of your means..e.g OH has had his wages reduced.

Eastbono - are you sure you calculated the means correctly?

Assuming the b/f has assessable earnings of €350pw.
    1. €350 minus €60 (€20 per day) = €290.
    2. 60% of €290 = €174 (weekly means).
    3. Take weekly means away from the maximum JA rate available (in this case, €312.90).
    4. €312.90 - €174 = €138.90 weekly JA payment.

Happyturtle: You say 'it looks like I've received 5 euro per week'.... you should have received an award letter that outlines the figures for the means test. You should go to your social welfare office and ask them to explain your payment.

Mea Culpa Mystic. I have deleted the post.

    Thanks for the answers :)

Mystic: I have received the letter with the means test outlined, it states that my rate is 188 euro and my means are 183, giving 5 euro per week... How come they give me a single person rate and then deducted my b/f wages from that? Do you think it's a mistake or they changed the rules? When I was calculating it on my own it was exactly the same as your calculations...

Sorry to hijack the thread but I'm due to change over to JA shortly, could you post up the equation to calculate how you're assessed?! Is the 350 assessable earnings gross or net wages?

I used the details above for our case and it was exactly what the office came up with. I have searched the internet for these details, delighted I found it here.

The rules haven't changed. I think it's a mistake.....go to your Social Welfare Office and query it. When you posted your b/f's earnings, was that the net amount (ie, after tax, PRSI, USC, etc.)?

For the JA means test, you have to work out what the weekly assessable earnings are. Weekly assessable earnings is weekly income less PRSI, superannuation (including AVC's and PRSA's), the pension levy and union dues. I don't know if the USC is included in the list of deductions. This is taken from here: http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/ja_inc_insuremp.aspx#a

    Hope this helps.

See my post above this one. Assessable weekly earnings for JA is weekly income less PRSI, superannuation (including AVC's and PRSA's), the pension levy and union dues. I don't know if the USC is included in the list of deductions. This is taken from here: http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Operational...nsuremp.aspx#a

Once you get weekly assessable earnings, deduct €20 a day for your spouse, partner, civil partner working (up to a maximum of 3 days....€60).

Get 60% of this figure and round up to the nearest euro. This is the weekly means figure.

Take the weekly means from the maximum JA rate for your family (Personal Rate - €188, Increase for a Qualified Adult - €124.90 and Increase for a Qualified Child - €29.80 (per child). http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Publications/sw19/Pages/sw19_sect6.aspx

This should be your weekly JA payment.

    Hope this helps.
