Wind blew my bag over and snapped shaft of my new driver... will my standard club insurance cover a new shaft?

I think you have to pay the 1st 50e of the repairs yourself- insurance only covers the rest.

some clubs run a golf sure competition at the start of the year and it covers situations like this and stolen clubs etc

My own golf insurance (Chartis) covers theft of clubs (minus 50 excess) not accidental damage. Have your club's Hon. Sec. check out the group policy document for clarification.
