    Hi all,

I am currently on job seekers allowance. I only have GCSE E grade in Maths, I think GCSE are Junior Cert equivalent. Anyway I need to get Leaving Cert Maths and I have no idea what to do to get it. Who do I go to for help and is there funding through FAS or other? I am very poor with maths and get totally confused by the simplest things so I would need lots of help!

    Any replies would be appreciated.

I think the VEC (Vocational Education committee) would probably be your best bet. They offer courses in leaving certificate subjects for adults of many ages, both daytime and evening courses should be available if you live in a city like Dublin or Cork.

    City of Dublin VEC website:

Because you seem to have very specific questions, I would drop into my local VEC were I in your position, there is one in every county.

I am not too sure about how the social welfare benefits work, but I would imagine you would have to satisfy a minimum number of hours per week, and you may be unlikely to reach this quota if you are only studying one leaving certificate subject. However, you may receive help with your fees. Again, your best bet would be to contact the VEC directly.
