Hi guys, relatively new to running and was at a stage where I was running 8.5k in approx 50 mins. I was on a weeks holidays and since ive come back, ive had a bad head cold,so no running for about 2 weeks now.Any suggestions as to how I should ease myself back into it i.e. distance, time etc... I'll also add that while on hols, did plenty of walking and a fair bit of swimming. All suggestions greatly appreciated. Cheers in advance.

Johnny,Put a short and long term in place.Plan for an 8 or 10 k race in 6 weeks time, arace is always a good motivator.Put a training schedule in place(Hal Hidgon is a good starter plan).
Mabye consider a faster paced 10k as your long term goal or even a half marathon later in the year or early next year.Good luck and Happy running

@Runonewon. Cheers for reply but I think the point was missed. What I was angling towards was I was up to about 8.5k but havnt done anything in 2 weeks.Do I just take up where I left off or should I decrease distance for a while 'till I get back into the swing of things?

Well you shouldnt be running 8.5k or your max every day anyway.

So start back with 3km or 4km or what feels comfortable and then just get back in a routine. Maybe look at some training logs/plans on how to structure you week

Nowhere did i say i was running 8.5k every day:confused: Did a c210k program and got to a stage where i could do it,albeit slowly.Any suggestions as to what i should be doing weekly so as to maintain or improve on this.I should add that its purely recreational with possibly the odd fun run thrown in-not competitive, well, much anyway;)

just go back to your c210k programme and maybe jump back into week 5 or 6 maybe. If you feel ok after a week or so then continue on up.

Just from your posts it's difficult to make out your goals...

When you finish the 10k programe maybe you go sign up for a few 10k races and start a new more advanced training to either improve your 10k times or start a novice half marathon programme if upping your miles is your goal. (as raceonewon said)

if you just want to maintain that fitness level then just run maybe 6k 2-3 times a week with a 10k on the weekend.
