Aer Lingus flights to Salzburg 2012

Just wondering if anyone else knows anything on this one. I've been waiting to book my flights for next seasons trips and I usually fly to Salzburg out of Dublin with Aer Lingus and had the flights booked the first week of June last year and have been waiting to book them this year but got impatient today and called Aer Lingus. The girl who I got through to said if they are not on the site at the minute for January then they will not be going up???
It seems from that answer they have cancelled the route but I can't find anything on it online. Does anyone know if the route has been cancelled?

I thought 6 months in advance was approximately what most airlines worked to with releasing flight details so she could have been right that they have cancelled the route.

Ryanair don't have theirs up either. I'm keeping an eye on Aerlingus every day using iMacro addin for firefox so I'll post if I notice anything.

Edit: Ryanair do have their Stansted to Salzburg flights up. Not sure if they run the Stansted to Salzburg flights all year round though.

As I recall, last year, Aer Lingus put theirs up in late June, but Ryanair didn't until September. I've not given up hope yet.

I can't see either of them dropping the route - they would be mad. Where else are they going to fill a few planes on a Winter Saturday if not to SZG ?

I would say they are working on yield management - leave it a little later, get people a little more nervous so that when they are released people will snap them up at whatever price.

I think they both started out with one flight on Saturdays last year and Ryanair added in extra as demand built.

Can anyone remember how much the flights were when first released last year?

when is the best time to book in order to get best fare? Should one book as soon as they are available, or wait a while in the hope of a price drop?

No telling, the prices will go up and down depending on how they are selling at the time and what colour shirt you are wearing.

I know everyone on this thread will be booking flights but wouldn't it be nice if anyone hears that the flights are available to let us all know - after you've booked your own seems reasonable. ;)

It has being decied in the last week or so that EI wont offer scheduled flights to salzburg this winter. Thats what a friend told me who works for them. I was also waiting for them. However they will operate charter flights there on Saturdays for directski. (10.50 departure/21.55 arrival into Dublin). Its not know if Ryanair will offer flights yet.

When I rang up last week I was told they would operate and after my friend said they had being dropped I called again and was told it might operate but not sure until the end of the month.

Cheers for the update Jamie2k9. It's a real pain about possibly having to go through TO for flights to Salzburg. They will no doubt keep the prices high as they have a monopoly. :(

I can't believe they are after canning the flights to Salzburg. Every flight I have been on has been full and I only travel at off peak times... It makes no sense to me.

Seems to me that if Aer Lingus aren't doing it, makes even more sense for Ryanair to keep it open.

I'm with ownsel on this one, I am amazed if they do drop it, but jamie2k9 could well be right, for my tuppence worth, I have a friend who is cabin crew so not able to give concrete info, but the 'gossip' she heard was that it was the wednesday flight that they had problems filling but the saturday one was nearly always full - the 'gossip' she heard was that they may release a saturday flight but that would be it. As you all may know, we booked in april with Lufthansa DUB-Frnk-Salz & got the flights all in for 160pp, now I am the first to say that the route is a pain in the ........ but we had to be in Obertauern for New Years eve and time was against us, but the bottom line is we leave on new years eve on the red eye special & are in Salzburg for 12.30pm (irish), the flights are now mega expensive but for anyone desperate to get to Salzburg, have a look at Lufthansa.

but jamie2k9 could well be right,

I've checked on Direct Ski and if you go a bit through the booking process they give details of the carrier as Aer Lingus and the times match what jamie2k9 said. They may or may not release another flight at some point in the future but it looks very much like at the moment they are the designated carrier for at least one of the TOs.

Salzburg will not operate for EI. Removed from booking system on website.

Expensive.... Starting from €87.99 one way.
When you add on fees, baggage and ski carriage
It's going to be very high.
The tour ops seem to offer better value this year.

had a look at a couple of web site, Generally ryanair is the only 1 that flies direct. Lufthansa flies there via Frankfurt for around €173-€188 depending on when you want to go.

Got my flite for €192 with Ryanair - 4th to 11th Feb - doesnt include a checked bag. Happy eneough. The Chrystal packages look pretty good if you are finding the flight have gone up too much.
