    Hi,

    I have seen some threads about tabata training in the health & Fitness section but none here in the Running section.

    Does this form of training bare ay value when it comes to training for races?

    If you're looking for 6 weeks of improvements, Tabata intervals or any other high intensity training is the way to go. They build you up quickly but after 6 weeks you will have reached the peak and there are no further improvements.

    If you want to get the best out of yourself as a runner then weeks, months and years of steady aerobic training will build you up, and unlike the high intensity stuff, each training cycle will build on top of the previous one.

    That's about all that needs to be said on the topic.

    When people say "Tabata" what they normally mean is 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds of rest x8, like the rest intervals used in the study. Very rarely do they mean "closely monitoring wattage output and adjusting resistance and volume to remain in a specific range while using intervals of 20 seconds of work and 10 seconds of rest".
