Further to a previous post I made on Al Hayes, which I could not rescind as it ended up being locked down, I would just like to say that there are actually a lot of positives to the way these guys do business and they are actually rather likeable.

I've been around to multiple garages in the last week and by comparison, they aren't half bad.

The undeniable fact is that they are very busy though. Also, they probably have the best selection of second hand vehicles in the west of Ireland.

In spite of the somewhat negative lilt of my previous post I intend to purchase from these guys. They seem rather down to earth and genuine.

I will keep ya'll posted on how it goes.

Ya, I guess I was a bit unfair. It really is hard to find such selection of cars to fit every budget anywhere else.

Here, it's very easy to find a whole bunch of cars you'd like. One of the most difficult things is narrowing down which one you want :)

He seems to have a lot of loyal customers that come from all over the country.

As I said previously, it is a good thing to see a car in it's raw form, rather than seing it all polished with a bad paint job that flakes off six months down the line. Also, in regard to the oil change, I think it would be very easy to disguise problems with a car by immediatedly putting fresh oil into it, problems like leakage, head gasket failure etc. When I think about it is actually better.

Sure we'll see how it goes with the "horse play and the banter" :pac::pac::pac::pac::pac::pac:

We did a deal in Al Hayes to trade in our 09 Laguna for a 10 reg Passat last February. It was going to cost us Eur 9k. It was the best price that we could find. The deal was done, the quote written out on paper and the handshakes done and we went off to arrange the finance. We had the finance arranged 2 days after doing the deal and rang them to say that we wanted to pick up the car. They said that they would ring us back. 2 days later they hadn't rang. So the Mrs rang them. They said that they they had a small issue with the car and that they would ring us back later that day. 2 days later, the Mrs rang them again. They told her that they had reconsidered the trade in and that they couldn't sell the passat to us unless we were to give them Eur 12k. (that's 3 k more than their original quote).

We were very annoyed and told them to stuff it. Bought our passat, but not from them. Very poor customer service. If they didn't want our car as a trade in, why did they quote us in teh first place and why did they give us a complete run around for a week. Based on this experience, I would be very slow to go back to them!!!!!

I'm not going to mention any specifics because what i've heard is through a third party, all be it a very reliable one, i've no grounds for repeating things on here, but i for one would not buy any car's there.

Well, it the questionaire wasn't my brain child. It was that of Consumer Connect http://www.consumerconnect.ie/eng/Hot_Topics/Guides-to-Consumer-Law/Buying-a-car/.

I don't think that's a bad idea at all though to be honest, though I'm sure if someone handed me a form like that I would feel slightly taken aback even if I did have absolute faith in a car. I mean, I bought my last car second hand and had it for ten years - only reason it's not still on the road is cos it was stolen and crashed. Was a great car!

Now if someone had handed me a form like that I would have said that no the car hadn't been crashed or had bodywork on it - to my knowledge it hadn't. However, I found out after driving it for ten years that it had in fact been crashed. I was a great car though and very sad that it ended up in the crusher.

Hmmm, sounds like they had a better offer then!

I doubt there's a garage in Ireland that someone hasn't had a bad experience in. It's a peculiar trade really.

    Holy s***! That is unreal!

How could they still have a license to trade after something like this??

:eek::eek::eek: I am shocked. I would have thought a garage would be shut down for something like that :eek::eek::eek:

Well, sticking to my questionaire then............

    Yeah, fair enough he was only 16 and should never have been on the road in the first place but still;

"It later transpired that the car was defective: component parts of the chassis were out of joint and the steering mechanism was not completely repaired. "It was a defective car,"

"It was claimed the tyres of the car were wearing off unevenly; the timing belt slipped off the engine; the steering components were faulty and the chassis and suspensions were damaged."

Would you have been happy to have purchased said car?

Nope. Root cause of that car leaving the road was kid 16 year old driver, his old lad hadn't had an issue with it up to then.

True, a 16 year old should never have been on the road.

However, is it also not true, that a car described as a "wreck" should similarly never have been on the road also?

Why then did Al Hayes Garage accept full liability?

I wonder if any of the people working at the garage who knew the history of th car, would have deemed that car worthy enough that they'd let members of their own family drive it with a clear conscience?

I wouldn't buy a car off this place if it was the last dealership on the planet.

This is based on an unpleasant experience I had with the man himself a few years ago and on countless stories I've heard from others since.

    He wasn't charged with manslaughter.

Right I'm closing this. This is being dragged somewhere nobody wants to go.

And RJ, your use of language is yet again appalling. Try getting your point across without the vulgarities in future.
