ok... so im pretty much googling images at the moment.. to show what i want to connect.
    3050-6.jpg

    speaker_connections1.jpg

so image 1 is pretty much what i have on my tv. a 5.1 audio out for surrond sound.
what i have then is from a surrond sound dvd is the 6 speakers for the connections. (image 2) they have wires, but they basically were wired with connections on image 2 on both ends, so its just a double strand of wire,

I want something to put on the end of this wire which allows me hook it into image 1
can someone tell me what said item would be called so i can go amazoning or ebaying? cheeers in advance

AS FAR AS I CAN SEE THOSE 5.1 OUTS ARE MEANT TO GO TO A 5.I CHANEL AMP WHICH WILL HAVE CONNECTIONS SUITABLE FOR YOUR SPEAKER WIRES

ok cheers. i called into expert electrical and guy there told me to buy coaxial cables for each of them and cut the wire open at the other end and just connect both wires to the speakers.
i had wanted to use my existing wires to save expense, and considering the expense of an amp thats kinda :/ also. + doubles the wiring i need. although short coaxials arent too expensive...

dharn had it right, you need an amp. The outputs you pictured are low signal level, they won't have enough grunt to drive speakers. That's why they make things called amps.

I'd like to run my car on water instead of petrol, but there's a few good reasons why I can't.

great an additional expense. im as well off keeping the original dvd player so and just running sound through that... only thing is it wont be able to support the 5.1, but for the time being seems its my only option then..
as for running your car on water... technically you could if they worked on those hydrogen cars a bit more..

your expert electrical guy is a right plank you would have bought a bundle of what are actually phono cables not coaxial and rendered them useless if you really wanted to go mad you could purchase 5 power amps one for each chanel and power 5 individual speakers then you would have a system ,10 k should cover a good one :)

lol. considering i only spent 400 on the tv i dont think i will :P
cheers anyway. as i said i have the dvd player but its a huge thingy. 850W so fine hence why i wanted to keep the speakers. only thing is audio in is just a line. so i cant get the surround sound. but will do anywa
once i get me a proper job ill look into getting an amp

This bit is unclear. Do you have 6 outputs on the DVD with those connections?
What model DVD player is it?
