Hi, Just wondering if any one would know any earlier buses that go from dublin southside towards the city centre on weekdays ? I've been trawling through the DB webside, and so far the earliest one I can find is the 6.04 46a departure from Dun Laoghaire.

By any chance does anyone know of any earlier buses from anywhere in the southside ? I'm going to need to get into town for about half six in the morning, and maybe some other early morning southside commuters might know of early buses.

Thanks for any advice / suggestions. Cheers, Mike :)

That first 46A will get you into town for around half 6. Other than that, you could try the Aircoach and ask nicely to hop off in town but it's not as cheap as DB

If you can cycle/walk/drive to the Luas it goes from 5.30am in the mornings on weekdays

I take it you didn't happen upon the 7D timetable then. It is the only place where the earliest service from the Dun Laoghaire area is listed, it should be in the 7 timetable as well. This is a long running service originally primarily a staff bus but in recent times is used more by passengers than staff.

Bus departs Dalkey at 05.20. Route is: Dalkey terminus, Barnhill Rd, Avondale Rd OR Killiney Rd-Ballinclea Rd, Church Rd, Ballybrack Cross, Shangannagh Rd, Shankill shopping centre, Old Dublin Rd, Loughlinstown Hospital N11, Wyatville Rd, Churchview Rd. Then as Route 7 via Dun Laoghaire to city centre with a diversion via Nutley Lane, Donnybrook Garage and back to Ballsbridge.

From memory it was usually in Dun Laoghaire at around 05.45 and terminated on the quays at 06.10-06.15.

There are more early morning "ghost" buses around the city, some staff only most in public service. The early 84 for instance was another that got into the city around 6.30, it covered part of the 45/46A routes as well with a diversion through Deansgrange. With the change to the 84 stopping at UCD I don't know it's current status but I wouldn't be surprised if that particular departure still ran into the city centre.

It would be helpful if you could be more specific about where in the southside you mean! The southside extends from Dun Laoghaire in the east to Tallaght in the southwest and there are several early morning departures across that wide area.

If by southside (and I am interpreting your post here) you mean the Merrion Road and Stillorgan QBCs the 0520 7 from Dalkey via Ballybrack, Shankill, Loughlinstown and thence via normal 7 route (except for deviation via Donnybrook Garage) is the first early morning service to the city.

The 0515 route 84 from Newcastle deviates from the normal route at Cornelscourt, and then operates via Clonkeen Road, Kill Avenue, Abbey Road, Link Road to Deansgrange Road, Stradbrook Road and Newtownpark Avenue to resume normal route at Whites Cross. It however terminates at UCD Belfield flyover. Passengers have to then wait for the first 46a.

Cool. Thanks everyone for the advice and that 5.20 a.m. number 7 bus seems perfect and I will try that.

    Cheers, Mike :)
