Thinking of doing a walk starting at piers gate to summit of Knocknacloghoe tomorrow. Are we mad given weather conditions? Have wet gear. We have not tried a climb on our own before. The wife and I.

It's just 500ish metres, but even at that height you can get caught out. Do you have a map/compass/ANY experience in the hills ? If not, keep low level and go with a walking club to the bigger ones.

Have a map but no compass. Have been up on a few climbs but always with others. Have adequate gear leggings etc, What Do you mean keep low level? Do you think this walk would be risky tomorrow? Have very good directions.

As I got no more replies-took the risk and gave it a go. Wonderful walk

    Manageable about three hours.

Here is a very useful website on it with directions/pictures

Next time you're at the pier gates, Djouce is an easy & very scenic walk from there.

Sorry for not getting back, Flash. All's well that ends well though. Djouce is a lovely walk too.
