It's against Airport Bylaws and I was refused photography at the old SRS hanger.

Might that be due to all the military planes coming and going from Shannon?

Take solace with the fact that you're not the first and probably not the last.

Indeed, the important distinction is that just because you're outside the fence doesn't mean you are off the property. The fence doesn't mark the perimeter of the property. This is quite common. At Dublin airport the public road to the north of the airport actually crosses airport land. The radar building to the North of the road used to be inside the perimeter fence.

While I posted the comment just after it had happened I was a little miffed to be honest but in reflection Im not suprised after the idiotic behaviour of a few down there over the past few years which is why I went to the bother of asking as a matter of courtesy in the first place but they have a job to do at the end of the day and a C-130 and 3 Omni were on the ground at the time

The Aiport Police Officer was very polite to me at all times and told me to contact operations/duty officer for permission which I did but they couldnt clarify anything and were baffled as to why she got me to ring them.

Anyway God be with the days the D/O used to bring us airside to get pics of the 707's etc and we would spend Friday and Saturday night sleeping in the old pub with the viewing balcony spotting for the weekend

    Many good memories

    Sadly a different world now

I did get some shots off which ill post in the gallery

Did the same type of thing not happen in EIME recently?

Blame those tools of protesters for screwing it up for everyone.

Can you give more details on this?

There is no aircraft viewing area at Baldonnel and there are warning signs up inside the perimeter fence advising that the making of photographs or sketches is prohibited by law. :(

Taking pictures of military installations was always forbidden. That's not a local bye law. It's the law of the land. That includes your local barracks and the shed where the local RDF meets.

Ya from what I heard it was a group of spotters that had a tour they had arranged cancelled on them, they are fairly active on this forum and others I believe.

It must be just an Irish thing then. I took this C130 pic when I was in the states and the local security guys did not seem to mind. they were even telling us things about the planes, stats and such....

    Free countries are great things...

Sorry about the late reply but I was away for a while and missed this tread....

As I'm the person that organised the tour you claim was cancelled I'd like to let you know it was only delayed....

All Tours of Casement were postponed for a few weeks when the Air Corps had a lot on including live firing exercises and when the aircraft are armed they don't like to have members of the public on the base in-case of any accidents....

The tour will be going ahead in the not too distant future.... :)

And there has never been any problem with taking pics during tours either....

Weird, I have never been stopped taking photos at Shannon and the airport police are always doing the rounds, and there has been a military aircraft(Omni DC-10, C130, Navy DC9, etc),

Maybe it was because its a non-designated viewing spot as opposed to the spot over beside the Aerospace hanger or to a lesser extent the spot at the end of 24(thin windy road).

    Hi there
@westdub, I'd question your assertion that they don't like to have civvies in the Don when there are armed aircraft about. I gave plenty of tours there in my time, even when aircraft were armed. The armed aircraft are kept well cordoned off. The other concern is ejection seats in the PC-9s and they are also kept well segregated from outsiders. In fact, there are far more barricades and fences up than there used to be. I suggest that the individual who controls tours was not available and it was easier to fob you off for now than find someone. Keep trying, you'll get in again.
    regards
