Shannon Plane Spotting

    Hi,
I'm tempted to go to Shannon some morning to get some pics of the early inbound US Flights. At the moment there are about 3 - Aer Lingus, Continental, and Delta.
Generally I think they land on Rwy 24 (wind dependent). The only viewing area I know of is by Shannon Aerospace aircraft landing on 24 would be flying in over this. Anyone take any pictures from here whats it like, fencing is quiet high so Aerial shots are the only option I think.

Appreciate any comments from Spotters who use Shannon.

    Thanks

    Ger.

Bring a stool or a small ladeer and you can see over the fence just fine.
(I learned this the hard way myself afew weeks ago)

I know that there is somewhere else to take pics from as someone here posted co-ordinates for it but I dont know where it is

There is a spot at the end of 24/ start of 06, just head past the Aerospace till you get to a T junction, turn left and keep going till you get to the end(its a thin road though, so you wanna go slowly!)

There's a stone wall you can stand on to get some good take off shots if they're travelling down 24 or equally good landing shots if they're using 06:

NOTE: I've been spotted lots of times by airport security checking the perimeter and never once been asked to move on, once they knew I was just taking photos.

    Some Great shots there Killanator.
I think maybe a year ago I followed that road that you mentioned and came to a gated area (very narrow road I remember), I met Airport Security patrolling inside the fence I asked them was there any viewing area told them I was trying to take a few pics, Plane spotting etc, they were fine very polite but advised me to go back to the Viewing area by Aerospace. I was probably on the same road you mentioned but missed the stone wall must have a look again. I am not very familar with the area.

    heya that was me
i was parked beside you in the black legacy the day you were down - not the best days for pics was it- sorry to hear you were moved by the APOs - it pretty much depends whos on duty, some are cool some aint so...

here are those co-ordinates again if theyre of any use
    these are google maps co-ordinates.

    Position A
this is the public viewing area beside shannon aerospace, at the 24 threshold. you will need a ladder/steps for pics. early morning pics will be backlit from this area best suited to afternoon/evenings

    position B
this is commonly known as ''the honk'' (named after a nearby local pub)
great for evening take offs from 24 or landings on 06, its pretty much backlit for most of the day tho
drive past shannon aerospace until you come to a t junction, take the left and follow the road to the boundary fence.

    position C
THIS IS FOR THE ADVENTUROUS ONLY- very bad i mean lunar potholed roads - will bring you to the end of the runway at the 06 end.
same directions as the honk, take side road to the left 100m after the T junction, then after 5/600m take lh fork in the road - good luck!

    position D
this is to the left of the 24 threshold, allmost on flightline, great for early morning pics
    52.711989309611255. -8.897472023963928
park @ factory gate and theres a mound on lh side b4 u get to the airfield gate.

    position e
this is the old Lynx hangar.right beside the SAR hangar,
park in carpark on rh side of building great for catching aircraft taxi-ing to dept 24 or after landing on 06

    52.7043855479472. -8.906639814376831

for most places in shannon you will need steps to see over the fence.
