Ya - no joy. Tried it again, it tried to sync but then it closed and a tab opened for the ipod.

Ok now window opened and it says

"itunes has stopped working. A problem cause the program to stop working correcty. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".

Only option is to close program

Have you tried plugging it in without starting iTunes? Is it recognised by the PC?

I had a similar problem with windows 7, what I had to do was start task manager (Ctrl/Alt/Delete) and go to processes, stop any that are running (that you can) and try it again.
I eventually had to format my harddrive and reinstall windows and itunes.

Lots of good things to try out on the Apple website for XP and Vista/7.

Suck any dust out of the ipod connector. Put a cloth over the connector and suck. Don't get it wet. Do a hard reset on the ipod then plug it back in and start itunes.

Ok cookie - I will try that - thanks!

Didn't work :( Sometimes it does try to sync the ipod and crashes, sometimes it crashes straight away.

What did you try, what didn't you try and why didn't you try them?

Ok, I tried everything I could :) There was stuff on there that was messing with the pc or program etc that I wouldn't go near! I did the basic stuff, unload, reload, put ipod on safe mode. Someone said wipe the ipod clean but i don't know how to do that. Both Ipods won't work and friends won't either but friend tried theirs on their pc and they worked so I think its this pc and connection and ipod is ok. I am lost here, don't know what to try next.

With your ipod plugged in and itunes off
    Open windows explorer
    Right click my computer
    Click properties
    Click device manager
Under usb look for anything apple and right click it and click uninstall
look under the other tabs for apple ipod devices and right click them and uninstall
    Uninstall iTunes
    Plug out your ipod
    Restart PC
    Install itunes
    Plug in ipod
    Fingers crossed :)

Does Your iPod work on your friends pc?

Backup your iTunes folder to be on the safe side.

Then try Uninstalling everything Apple, Bonjour, Quicktime etc. Run a CCleaner. Then reinstall iTunes. Hope for the best.
