The way you set up an account is:

    settings--> Mail,Contacts,Calander

If your account is already set up you should see it listed under accounts at the top

If it is not listed you need to add it so click 'Add Account'

Since your receiving emails I'd say you've already done this..

I say the problems your expirencing is due to the fact that it is an eircom account..

I'd suggest setting up a gmail account and it should work fine

did you change the password since setting up the email on the phone,

make sure the incoming and outgoing passwords are the same, go to settings>mail and tap on the email account
scroll down to outgoing mail center and tap it, if its hotmail it should be smtp.live.com
tap on the primary server and then tap password and enter the right one

    Same problem here.

I cant for anything send an email from my iphone.I can receive alright but cant send.

    Its also an eircom account.

Im on UPC at home and can send receive from my Android Tablet,Nokia x6,laptop etc but not the Iphone. My heads wrecked with it.

Heres the settings from say the Ziio(android pad)

    Incoming--webmail.eircom.net
    Outgoing smtp.upcmail.ie

Put in user name and pass and it works.
Do the exact same with the iphone and it wont.
If I cant get it running with settings that I know 100% will work with another device how am I supposed to set it up for when Im out and about??

So heres another idea.If I setup a gmail account can I send receive (forward) the eircom one to the gmail account?

You need to have your outgoing settings (SMTP server) entered for both your home WiFi network and your mobile carrier i.e. VF, O2 etc. This will make it use your WiFi provider at home, and your mobile carrier when out and about.

I have the home one entered ie smtp.upcmail.ie
If I can get this one working I`ll then use the meteor ones for when Im not near my wifi.
Also I just set up a gmail account that works flawlessly--sends and receives 100%
I cant change everything over to that one since I use my eircom account for work purposes.

The message I get trying to send an email from my eircom address is "the sender address ****@eircom.net" was rejected by the server.

As I said the same settings work on my pad,laptop,x6--Im stumped.

That usually means its trying to send on the wrong SMTP server, i.e. you are on UPC but it is using the eircom.net or Meteor SMTP settings?

Go into settings>mail, contacts etc>your eircom account>smtp>Primary server would normally be UPC smtp, Other would then show Meteors smtp details.

I only have the upc ones in the Iphone. So I dont think it can be picking up the wrong smtp server.

I haven't set up one on UPC before, so the only thing I could suggest is the ports need to be changed, or the authentication needs changing in the settings.

    Right here goes.
I found a way around it.

    Firstly get a gmail account.
Set it up and make sure its working 100% on the iphone before going and further.

2.Go into the gmail settings on the web and add a second account under "accounts and import" on the settings page.
Add your eircom account to your gmail account--this allows the eircom account to use gmails smtp servers.

You`ll need to wait till you get a mail from gmail asking to verify the eircom account.

Now go to the iphone--you`ll alrteady have the gmail account setup.

    Click add account.

Add your eircom account as normal.

Incoming is always webmail.eircom.net and outgoing will come up as mail1.eircom.net or mail2.eircom.net <<<<<<<I cannot get either of these to work or my upc smtp server and Ive tried everything so this is where I reckon my problems lie.

So let it do its thing and it will probably say somethings failed--usually the outgoing (well in my case it was the outgoing)
    Change the outgoing to

    smtp.gmail.com
put in your full GMAIL email address in the outgoing username--and your GMAIL password in the password box.SSL on,server port 587.

This works 100% and you dont even have to use the gmail account ever again--its literally to allow you use your eircom account through gmails servers.

Hope this helps someone else out and any questions feel free to ask.

I said that, but you said you only have UPC settings:confused:

You cannot send from one mail server (eircom) while on another network (UPC). Gmail works because it is IMAP, and you put in username and password.

When setting up email on the iPhone, for using data on the move, you need to have outgoing servers set up with 2 SMTP settings.......your home WiFi SMTP server, and your mobile carriers SMTP SETTINGS for when you go out and about. Or use Gmail as outlined above, which will send no matter which network you are on.
